Fried Green Tomatoes

I got together with my Grandma Dee
and we decided to cook up some fried green tomatoes using an old family recipe.

This was my first time having fried green tomatoes,
but my Grandma used to eat them all the time when she was younger
and she has many fond memories of her family making them.
So we "rekindled" the memories while we enjoyed our time together
eating tasty, fried tomatoes.

Ingredients:
6 - 7 green tomatoes
salt and pepper
1 cup flour
1/2 cup self-rising cornmeal (I didn't have any so I added baking powder)
1 cup crisco vegetable oil
egg and milk mixture
(I used 2 eggs and then just poured the milk in until I liked the consistency)

Heat oil over medium heat in a skillet.
Slice tomatoes into 1/2 inch slices.
Salt and pepper the tomatoes.

Whisk egg and milk together;
mix flour and cornmeal together.
Dip tomatoes into milk mixture
and then into flour mixture.
Fry tomatoes on both sides in hot oil.

And enjoy the finished product!
Is it healthy? Probably not!
Is it tasty? Most definitely! :)

My Grandma Dee and me enjoying our yummy fried tomatoes.

Happy Friday Everyone :)

Oh my goodness Stephanie they look AMAZING! I wish I could try them right now! When I go grocery shopping this week I might just have to get some tomatoes to try your recipe. I've only ever had Fried Green Tomatoes once (at a restaurant)- they were good, but yours look so much better!

Have a wonderful weekend ahead!

I love fried green tomatoes too. I never tasted them until I moved here to Georgia, seven years ago. They are delicious and the ones you made with your grandma look absolutely perfect! Hi Stephanie,

I am going to Print your recipe and try it; I have never eaten fried green tomatoes. I have some available from our garden.

I once had pickled green tomatoes around the age of 12, and I remember them being so delicious. I have never heard anyone mention them though, even though they know of green tomatoes fried. Have you ever had pickled green tomatoes?

Your grandmother is sweet looking, very lovely. Is this here kitchen? It look like a fun place to visit.

:) Hope

I always think it makes the blogging world a lot smaller when I do something and then somebody else blogs about doing it too, lol!

I have never had fried green tomatoes but I know there was a movie about it. Well, probably not about IT but there was a movie (never saw that either, haha).

What do they taste like?

What fun family memories for me in this post. We had a neighbor who was my kids adopted grandma. She used to cook fried zucchini - my fave. Different vege but fun memories nonetheless :) Thank you!
