Lace Snowflake Christmas Ornaments


Items Needed:

felt
scissors
lace
ribbon
hot glue
embellishments

Cut out a 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 inch circle from the felt.
Cut a 9 inch strip of string.
Apply a dab of hot glue onto the front of the felt
 and place the ends of the ribbon onto the glue.

Cut 12 strips of lace that are 5 inches long.
Cut 8 strips of lace that are 4 inches long.
Cut 4 strips of lace that are 3 inches long.

Okay....
start with the 5 inch long strips
and fold over both ends of lace so they meet in the middle on the backside.

Apply a little bit of hot glue in between the fold and on the back.
Place on felt circle and pinch together.
Use the 5 inch strips all the way around on the edge.

Next use the 4 inch strips to fill in the circle.

Then finish with the 3 inch strips.
When you're done,
you will have a small hole remaining.
Place a button or bead in the middle for the finishing touch.


These also make great bows for Christmas packages.

Holiday Fruit Tart

Sweet fruit and buttery crust....perfect together.
Crust ingredients:
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt, mix to blend.
Add butter pieces and beat with an electric mixer until incorporated
and mixture turns to moist crumbles, about 1 minute.
Pour mixture into a tart pan;
press evenly over bottom and up the sides of the pan.
Freeze shell for 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Remove tart from freezer;
bake for 18 - 22 minutes
or until light golden brown.
Cool completely.
Filling ingredients:
1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
assorted fresh fruit
Whisk pudding mix and milk in medium bowl for 2 minutes
or until completely dissolved and beginning to thicken.
Pour into tart shell.
Chill at least 30 minutes.
Before serving, arrange fruit on top of the tart.

Yarn Covered Jars With Yo-Yo Flowers


I don't know about you,
but there are moments I have a hard time getting motivated to do something.
A little while ago I was having one of those days....
I went to my craft room, sat on the floor and stared off into space.
I was thinking that I just wanted to read a book and eat some chocolate :)
But as I sat there the wheels in my head started turning
and this was the idea that formed,
yarn and lace covered jars with a bouquet of fabric flowers.
The Lord also brought a refreshing verse to my mind,
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do,
do all to the glory of God."
1 Corinthians 10:31
Items Needed:
jars 
(I used spaghetti sauce jars that I had saved)
yarn
lace
hot glue
Okay, I used a crotchet-type lace on the bottom.
This kept the yarn from falling off the jar.
Cut the lace to fit around the bottom and hot glue into place.
Wrap the yarn around the jar and tie a knot to secure;
begin wrapping the yarn around the jar (keep it tight).
As you can see with my jar I couldn't go all the way to the top because of its shape.
So when I got close to the top,
I hot glued the end of my yarn to the jar.
Then I hot glued lace at the top to cover the small area that wasn't covered by yarn.
Onto the yo-yo flowers....

Items Needed:
fabric
needle
thread
buttons, pearls, rhinestones, etc.
tree branches

Decide how many flowers you want in your jar
and cut out that amount of circles from fabric (I used an old shirt).
I had 8 flowers in my bouquet
and my circles were 3 1/2 inches X 3 1/2 inches.
Then cut out the same amount of smaller circles for the back of the flower.
Stitch along the edge of the circle.
When you get back to your starting point pull your thread tightly and tie a knot.
This is what you should have.
Flip your flower over
and place the top of the branch onto the back of the flower.
Apply some hot glue to the smaller circle and place over the branch.
Then apply an embellishment to the middle of the flower with hot glue.
And voila!

 I applied a felt Christmas tree to another jar that I made
and added some colorful candy canes.

Bead Wreath Ornaments

These beautiful ornaments are simple yet elegant.
Items Needed:
wire
beads
ribbon
needle nose pliers
Cut an 8 inch strip of wire.
Put the beads on the wire in the order that you would like.
I used different sized beads to give the wreath a pretty look.
Pinch the ends together with needle-nose pliers.
Wrap the ribbon around the wire to cover and tie a knot.
Make sure you cut enough ribbon to make a loop to hang from the tree.

The Roots Of Thanksgiving

I wanted to share an interesting article that I read in Acts & Facts,
a magazine published by Institute For Creation Research.
The Roots of Thanksgiving
Perhaps no other custom so clearly reveals this nation's original character
as that of Thanksgiving Day.
Other nations have adopted similar observances,
but America was the first to nationally recognize its dependence on God
with a special day set aside to thank Him for all His many blessings.
While the exact date of the first American Thanksgiving observance is debatable,
there is no doubt this custom sprang from the shared Judeo-Christian heritage
of those early pilgrims.
From early Spanish expeditions in the late 1500's to the Popham Colony in Maine in 1607,
each group publically declared a day of thanksgiving for their survival
on the shores of this then uncharted land.
And in 1623, Governor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony
established the most famous of all such observances
when a bountiful harvest prompted him to proclaim a special day to
"render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings."
During the War of Independence from England, the U.S. Continental Congress
set aside a day for thanksgiving and praise for the decisive victory at Saratoga in 1777,
marking the first time that all American colonies took part in such an event on the same day.
The following year at the Valley Forge,
George Washington declared a special day of thanksgiving upon receiving news
that France would provide aid to our cause.
And later, as the young nation's first president,
he responded to a congressional petition by declaring
Thursday, November 26, 1789,
as the first Thanksgiving Day of the United States of America.
Many state and national days of thanksgiving have been proclaimed
since that first Thanksgiving declaration.
But it was the tireless crusade of Sarah Josepha Hale
that finally led to the establishment of this beautiful observance
as a national American holiday.
Her moving letters so touched the heart of Abraham Lincoln
that in 1863 - in the midst of the horrors of the Civil War -
he urged his countrymen to be mindful of their many blessings,
that they are "the gracious gifts of the Most High God"
who ought to be thanked "with one heart and one voice,
by the whole American People."

Divine Pumpkin Crumble Cake

This recipe is a yummy alternative for pumpkin pie.
My husband does not care for pumpkin desserts,
but he thoroughly enjoyed this cake - he even had seconds when I made it!


Ingredients:
1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons butter, softened

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease an 8 X 8 pan.
Reserve 1 cup cake mix.
In a large bowl, combine the remaining dry cake mix with 1 egg and 1/2 cup melted butter.
Mix well, then pat into prepared pan.
In a large bowl, mix together the pumpkin, 3 eggs, 1/2 cup white sugar,
brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.
Pour over crust.
In a small bowl, combine reserved 1 cup cake mix, 1/2 cup sugar,
and 3 tablespoons softened butter.
Crumble over pumpkin filling.
Bake for 45 - 50 minutes.

Thankfulness In And For Everything

"Thankfulness is one of the evidences that a Christian
is indeed "filled with the Holy Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18).
Paul's letter to the Ephesians lists the characteristics of being filled with the Spirit,
demonstrated when believers are thankful for everything that happens in their live.
Believers should be thankful.
But there's more - not only for everything, but in everything,
we should give thanks to God.
"In every thing give thanks:
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
1 Thessalonians 5:18
This command is easy to obey when the living is easy,
though we might easily forget to do so.
But when the Lord is allowing us to hurt for a while, thanksgiving becomes hard.
The two small prepositions "in" and "for" are different in the New Testament Greek
as well as in modern English,
and God really wants us to learn how to thank Him both during and after the hard experience.
Why? Because He has allowed the hardship for a good purpose!
The apostle James urges us to "count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations [various testings];
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire,
wanting nothing."
James 1:2-4
Paul says that we can even "glory in tribulation also:
knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God
is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."
Romans 5:3-5
Patience and real love will come to characterize a habitually thankful Christian."

until sweet Claire shared what it's about.

11 Random Things About Myself
1. I love desserts and I have to have at least one sweet thing a day
2. I ran in Cross Country while at college....I was not very good at it, though I did enjoy it.
3. My favorite verse in the Bible is, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." -Philippians 4:13. During many of my weak moments, the Lord has always reminded me of that verse.
4. My son was born on my birthday at the same hospital by the same Doctor. The date was not planned that way, he was just 6 days late :) What a birthday gift from the Lord!
5. I love, love, LOVE dirt bikes!
6. I have a really hard time growing my hair out. I cut my hair when I was 4 or 5 years old and since then I have had shorter hair. I am trying to grow it out right now.....here's hoping :)
7. I was on a swim team when I was younger and was offered the chance to join the team that traveled around the states for competitions.
8. I giggle uncontrollably on roller coasters
9. Koala's are my favorite animal - I always wanted one for a pet :)
10. I have been skiing since I was 5 and snowboarding since I was about 13
11. I would love to write a book about the joy of modesty one day - big dream :)

1. If you could be a superhero, which one would you be and why?Lets see....how about Spider-Man only Spider-Woman. The reason - it would be fun to swing around with spider's web as your means of transportation.

2. What is your favorite outfit? A high-waisted 50's style skirt with a pearl-button cardigan and heels

3. What is your biggest dream for your life? I don't think it's really a dream, but my desire is to live my life for God's honor and glory, to stand strong in the faith when trials arise and to come out of it praising my Savior's name. I want to be a woman after God's own heart.

4. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A missionary to Africa and a Veterinarian

5. What is your favorite piece of furniture in your house and why? My piano - it's the place where I release my built-up emotions; grief, worry, happiness, joy. I play and it all comes out

6. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do first? I think I would be in shock if I won the lottery. I don't gamble so I have never thought about what I would do with the money....I guess I would give a lot of it to missionaries to help their work on the field. Then I think I would buy a grand piano :)

7. What is your favorite vacation and why? Going to Kauai, Hawaii, because it was where my husband and I went for our honeymoon:) We went on a helicopter ride, boat ride, surfing and swimming in the ocean - it was lovely!

8. If your life was a reality series, what would it be called? Hmmm....Something like "The Creative and Very Clumsy Life of Stephanie D." Yes, I am extremely clumsy :)

9. Who do you look up to? My sweet, loving, caring and giving mom and there is a very dear lady in my church that I greatly admire. She has such a love for Jesus and she is continually growing in the Lord and encouraging others.

10. What is your biggest pet peeve? Having everything in it's right place....and it has to be perfectly straight :)

11. If you could talk to your 18 year old self today, what advice would you give? Rest in the Lord, wait for His perfect timing, follow His leading and don't rely on emotions because they can sometimes get you in trouble....and listen to my parents - they really do know best.

Don't "Sweat" The Holiday's

It's that time of year when life seems to get crazy with
family gathering's, gift shopping, meal planning, etc.


So don't "sweat" the holiday's......
by making your own deodorant :)

I have been using this homemade deodorant for a while and I love it!
A lot of store-bought deodorant's have aluminum in them
which is very bad for you.
The skin is the largest organ of the body and it absorbs all that you put on it.
So stop and think about what is going on and in you.
An interesting fact is that a lot of store-bought deodorant's cause you
to have perspiration problems and sweat stains.
I had someone who has a sweat problem try this homemade deodorant
and since this individual has been using it, the problem has vanished.
Anyway, enough of that......

Let's move on to how you make it :)

Ingredients needed.:
1/4 cup aluminum-free baking soda
1/4 cup cornstarch
5 tablespoons virgin coconut oil
5-10 drops of tea tree oil
10-15 drops of orange or other fragrant essential oil
you don't have to use a fragrance, just the tea tree oil is fine.

Mix all the ingredients together.
Store in a sealed container (glass is best)
or you can put it in an old deodorant bottle.
Store at room temperature.
If it gets too warm, it will turn to liquid because of the coconut oil.
If this happens, just place the container in the refrigerator to solidify.
You will need to use only a small amount of this.

Glowing Glass Gems

These cute jars with glass gems are perfect for decorating during the holiday season.
They are very easy to put together
and they add a beautiful touch to any centerpiece.
Items Needed:
glass gems
wireless LED puck lights
bowls, votives, or any kind of round dish
I used crystal parfait glasses
Turn the LED lights on and place in the bottom of the bowls. 
Place the glass gems on top.
That's it!



They look amazing during the day time
and they look even more amazing when it's semi-dark in the room
and the glasses are glowing.
