Man's Neck Tie Headband

This pretty tie was found at my local thrift store for $1.00.
The pink roses and polka dots were right up my alley :)

I knew my husband would never wear a tie with pink flowers on it
and I would never ask him to wear such a feminine tie
so I decided to make a headband out of it so that I could wear it.

Items needed:
man's tie
wire
thread
sewing needle
scissors
needle-nose pliers

Lets get started :)

Measure the wire to fit the length of the tie then add on about 8 inches.
This is so that you can fold the wire at the ends so that it doesn't poke out.
Cut the wire with needle-nose pliers.

Slide the wire into the tie and push it through to the other side.
The wire is to hold the headband in place on your head
and it makes the headband flexible to make a cute bow on top.

Fold the wire at the ends
and push into the tie.
The wire should be completely hidden inside the tie.

Sew the ends closed.

Measure your head and figure out the length you will need for your tie headband.
The tie is going to be too long so fold it accordion style until you have the right fit.

Sew the folds down.

And you're done!

You can wear it with a knot on top

or you can put the knot at the back and have the folds on top.

Oh this is such a lovely (and brilliant) idea!! It turned out so pretty, and when I saw the picture first off it didn't even register that it was a tie until I saw the title. I would love to try this but it might be hard to find a tie that pretty, with the feminine touches in the fabric.

This is truly neat and looks so pretty on you. You always amaze me with how you take regular items and make something wonderful. I'm sure your Grandma would be very proud :)

Sending you hugs & wishes for a happy, blessed day!
