Mug Rug Happiness and The Christmas Giveaway Winner

Happy day, lovely friends!

If you would like to see who won the Christmas giveaway
please scroll down to the end of the post where I announce the blessed winner.

Today I have a tutorial and a sweet gift from a delightful blogging friend.

I had the privilege of participating in Kimberly's Mug Rug Swap
while on my blogging break and now that I'm back
I'm so excited to share the goodies I received from my partner.
It was truly an honor to be partnered with Jann from
Jann is a very special lady and blogging friend. . .
you see, her blog was one of the first blogs I followed
when I started blogging 3 1/2 years ago.
She also introduced me to what a linky party was
by inviting me to share a post or two at her weekly party
So I was tickled pink when Kimberly paired the two of us together.
And speaking of pink,
let me show you my pink goodness from  the lovely Jann.

Everything was wrapped so prettily in pink.
Don't you just love the roses?!

This delightful mitten mug rug greeted my eyes
when the tissue paper fell away.
The lace and sweet pinkness is so me.
I'd say Jann knows me pretty well {{smiles}}

A gorgeous vintage pink apron was also tucked into the box.
I have a small collection of vintage aprons
and this one was lovingly added to the others.

Dear Jann didn't stop there. . .
she sent two beautiful tea cups and they are both PINK!
This lovely lady had tea bags in her.

And the other lovely tea cup has a matching saucer
which is perfect for holding the homemade cookies Jann sent along.

My. . .my. . .my,
I'd say I was quite spoiled, wouldn't you?
My heartfelt thanks to Jann for everything!
I was richly blessed by such kindness and generosity.

And many thanks to Kimberly for hosting this wonderful swap.
I greatly appreciate her effort and hard work in organizing this event.

I made a lace and burlap mug rug for Jann
along with a matching hanging pillow.
Here is a photo collage of the goodies I sent her. . .

I also have a tutorial for the little shabby beauty.
Shall we get started, sweet friends. . .

I know most mug rugs tend to be quilted and made with cotton fabric,
but I decided to put a twist on this one and since I love lace and shabby things
I thought I would make a mug rug that is one-of-a-kind and unique.

Supplies Needed:
lace burlap {found at craft stores or Wal-Mart}
cotton fabric
fusible fleece
scrap pieces of lace
doily
pearls
pretty buttons
rubber stamp and ink

This project is great for using up small pieces of lace.
I always hate to throw any lace away even if it's only a small piece
so I keep them in a glass jar for future projects.

Let's start with the tree. . .
begin by layering your lace
and placing each piece where you would like it to be on your tree.

Then, sew each strip of lace together starting at the bottom
and working your way to the top.
You can sew the lace onto a piece of fabric,
but for this project I didn't
simply because I didn't want the fabric to show through the lace.

As you can see I just sewed the lace together and it made a square shape.
Next, you will cut the lace into a tree.

Once your tree is sewn and cut you will want to sew a trunk
{just a rectangular piece of lace}
onto the lace burlap fabric.
Once the trunk is sewn on you will need to sew your tree onto the burlap.

On the corner of the burlap I sewed on part of a doily.
You could use lace in place of the doily.

I used a stamp with the word "Joy" and brown ink.
I stamped it onto a piece of cotton fabric
and then sewed the fabric onto the burlap.
The edges of the fabric are meant to fray as you can see in the photo.

Once everything is sewn onto the burlap the mug rug can be put together.
Cut out two pieces of cotton fabric
that are 9-inches across and 7-inches down.
You will also need to cut a piece of fusible fleece that is the same size.
Iron on the fleece to the backside of one piece of fabric.
Sew your strip of lace burlap onto the front piece of cotton fabric.

Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together
and sew along the edges leaving a small gap at the bottom
{ all seams were sewn with a 1/4-inches seam allowance }.
Pull the mug rug through the small opening, press with an iron,
and sew along the edges to finish the mug rug.

Now you can embellish to your heart's desire.
I added pearl trim, sparkly buttons, and pearls on a stem.

I also cut up an old doily and used the flowers for accents.

Now you're ready to brew yourself some coffee. . .

Oh look,
it's coffee o'clock!

Make yourself a cup of tea. . .

Tea makes everything better!

Or enjoy a mug of hot cocoa. . .

Today is a hot chocolate
kind of day!

After all, you now have a pretty little mug rug
to put your hot drink on :)

The giveaway winner is. . .

Thank you, sweet friends, for sharing your precious memories with me;
your comments were truly a joy to read.
I wish I could give something to each and every one of you :)

Blessings and love to you, dear friends!

Dearest Stephanie,
Lovely gifts you received and it is so much also labor of love!
Amongst bloggers there are so many sweet people and again this past week I've learned about that.
Also on FB where so many were praying for my Dad and for the toxic family members.
I must say that those worldwide prayers did get answered. One toxic brother did finally arrange the TV, Radio and Telephone connection so yesterday we could finally, after 7 days, talk to Dad over the phone.
Today my youngest sister did bring him home; no surgery needed - almost like a miracle.
Blessings to you.
