Leaning On The Everlasting Arms

The eternal God is thy refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms:
and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee;
and shall say, Destroy them.
- Deuteronomy 33:27 -

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
what a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
leaning on the everlasting arms.

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
leaning on the everlasting arms.

Chorus
Leaning, leaning,
safe and secure from all alarms;
leaning, leaning,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
- Elisha A. Hoffman -

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me:
for my soul trusteth in thee:
yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge,
until these calamities be overpast.
- Psalm 57:1 -

I will say of the LORD,
he is my refuge and fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.
- Psalm 91: 2 -

Blessings and joy to you on this beautiful Sunday!

The Curiosity Keeper - Book Review

"It is not just a ruby, as you say.
It is large as a quail's egg, still untouched and unpolished.
And it is rumored to either bless or curse whoever possesses it."

Camille Iverness can take care of herself.
She's done so since the day her mother abandoned the family
and left Camille to run their shabby curiosity shop.
But when a violent betrayal leaves her injured with no place to hide,
Camille must allow a mysterious stranger to come to her aid.

Jonathan Gilchrist never wanted to inherit Kettering Hall.
As a second son, he was content to work as the village apothecary.
But when his brother's death made him heir
just as his father's foolish decisions put the estate at risk,
only the sale of a priceless possession - a ruby called the Bevoy -
can save the family from ruin.
But the gem has disappeared.
And all trails lead to Iverness Curiosity Shop - and the beautiful shop girl
who may be the answer to his many questions.

Caught at the intersection of blessings and curses, greed and deceit,
these two determined souls must unite to protect what they hold dear.
But when a passion that shines far brighter than any gem is ignited,
they will have to decide how much they are willing to risk
for their future, love, and happiness.

My Thoughts
I have read only one other book by the lovely Sarah E. Ladd
and both novels were enjoyable and well-written.
She seems to be consistent with her ability to write a story
that captures the readers attention from the first couple of chapters.
Each character in The Curiosity Keeper was well-portrayed
and came to life with their personality.

Camille is sweet and thoughtful, yet strong and bold.
With a father who cares more about his shop and the money he makes
and a mother who abandoned Camille at a young age
she has learned to take care of herself on the streets of London
and she has accepted the fact that she will likely be alone for the rest of her life.
But then she meets Jonathan,
a man that is willing to risk his life in order to save a young woman from harm.
A man full of character and kindness, a man with a heart of gold.
She soon realizes the blessed joy of having someone take care of her
and the sweetness of companionship,
but unfortunately she isn't willing to see beyond his title
and the fact that he is from the upper class and she is simply a lowly shop girl. . .

I thoroughly enjoyed The Curiosity Keeper
and I appreciated the fact that it was a "clean" novel
with no profanity or sensual references.
However, I do wish there would have been a little more "umph"
with Camille and Jonathan's relationship.
It seems like they went from barely knowing one another to being in a relationship
with nothing in between - the growth in their relationship was lacking.
I also wish there would have been a little more suspense throughout the book.
The beginning and the end were great and had me holding my breath,
but I needed a little more "meat" in the middle.
Other than that The Curiosity Keeper truly was an enjoyable read.
I would give this book 4 stars.

** I was given a complimentary copy of this book from BookLook Bloggers
for an honest review. All thoughts are my own and no other compensation was received. **

Who Said Pumpkins Have To Be Orange...And The Lilla Rose Giveaway Winner

Happy day, my friends!
Autumn is just around the corner and the cool mornings and chilly nights
here in the mountains are inspiring me to get ready for fall in my home.

Listen! the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves.
We have had our summer evenings,
now for October eves.
- Humbert Wolfe -

I made some dainty fabric pumpkins that I would love to show you.
They are perfect to make during a calm cool evening
with a cup of tea and a cookie. . .or two :)

But before we get into the pumpkin tutorial
I would like to announce the winner for the Lilla Rose flexi clip and hairband.
A big thanks to all of you for entering the giveaway - I truly appreciate it.

The lovely winner is. . .
Anne Payne

Congratulations, dear Anne :)

If you had your eye on a Lilla Rose product
than now would be a great time to purchase it.

please use this party link Lilla Rose to place your order.
Once the sale has ended, we will draw one name from the people who have ordered
and that person will win the hostess rewards, i.e. free items!
If you have any questions about placing an order,
please contact Hannah at radicalfemininity@gmail.com.

And don't forget if you purchase three clips
Lilla Rose will send you one for free!
The buy three get one free is only applicable to USA residents.

I think I'm going to go do a little shopping {{smiles}}
But before I do I would love to show you my shabby and not-so-orange pumpkins
and the how-to for making them.

Now for the delightful pumpkins. . .

Here is what you will need:

cotton fabric
buttons
lace, ribbon or crinkled seam binding
paper for leaves
tulle and pearls for stem
cinnamon sticks
pretty plate
poly-fil batting
scissors
needle and thread
hot glue gun and glue

There is a harmony in autumn
and a luster in its sky.
- Percy Bysshe Shelley -

Draw a pumpkin shape with a pencil onto some cotton fabric.
My pumpkin are about 3-inches in size.

Cut out a front and back.

I used tulle and pearls for the pumpkin stem.
I found these pretties in the bridal section at Hobby Lobby.

Apply a small amount of hot glue to the bottom of the stem
and press onto the inside of the pumpkin {this will hold it in place}.

Place the top of the pumpkin onto the bottom piece of fabric
and sew along the edge.
Leave a small opening and fill with your batting; sew closed.

Now choose some pretty buttons and embellishments
to finish off your pumpkin.

Cut out some leaf shapes with paper or burlap
and glue onto the middle of the pumpkin.

Next, tie a knot in the lace, ribbon, or seam binding
and glue onto the middle of the pumpkin near the top.

And finally you will glue on the button or embellishment.

. . .I see the turning of a leaf
dancing in an autumn sun,
and brilliant shades of crimson
glowing when a day is done. . .
- Hazelmarie "Mattie" Elliot -

Now tie up three fragrant cinnamon sticks
and embellish the knot.

Pick a pretty plate to hold your sweet little pumpkins.
I have chosen a tea cup saucer made in England
that is missing its tea cup.

Lay your new little pretties on the plate
and add your cinnamon sticks for a beautiful vignette
to add to your home during the autumn days.

Once I started making these pumpkins I was hooked
and made several more.
Here are some that are available in my Etsy shop

Click on the image and it will take you to the listing at Rose Petal Blessings.

Black and white polka dot pumpkins
because not all pumpkins have to be orange or "fall" colored, right? :)

Cream pumpkins with gold polka dots.

Sweet and shabby pumpkins that have feathers for stems.

Blue and tan country pumpkins.

Happy sewing, my friends.
Fall is just around the corner. . .

Autumn mornings:
sunshine and crisp air,
birds and calmness,
year's end and day's beginnings.
- Terri Guillemets -

Love and hugs to you!
