Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling

Thou wilt show me the path of life.
In thy presence is fulness of joy;
at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
- Psalm 16:11 -

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
calling for you and for me;
see, on the portals he's waiting and watching,
watching for you and for me.

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not his mercies,
mercies for you and for me?

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
passing from you and from me;
shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
coming for you and for me.

O for the wonderful love he has promised,
promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon,
pardon for you and for me.

Chorus
Come home, come home;
ye who are weary come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!
- Will L. Thompson -

Joy floods my soul,
for Jesus has saved me,
Freed me from sin that long had enslaved me;
His precious blood He gave to redeem-
Now I belong to Him!
Now I belong to Jesus,
Jesus belongs to me-
Not for the years of time alone,
But for eternity.
- Norman J. Clayton -

The grace of the spirit comes only from heaven,
and lights up the whole bodily presence.
- Charles Spurgeon -

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord,
and whose hope the Lord is.
- Jeremiah 17:7 -

Have a blessed Lord's Day, friends!

Oh, dearest Stephanie, what a beautiful and worshipful post this Sunday morning. I love this old hymn, and I especially love the one by Norman Clayton because my precious dad who is now with Jesus used to sing this in a rich baritone voice. He sang it with a smile and with great joy for his Savior. And there were rarely dry eyes in the sanctuary after he finished. And now he is with his Savior...for eternity...and may we all have joy because Jesus has saved us and we belong to Him...forever, not to be snatched ever! Precious hugs, love and, thanks, my friend!

I love this post! One of my favorite hymns...reminds me of being in church with my mother. Neither one of us could ever sing but that didn't stop us! :) We are so blessed to have this assurance aren't we?

Love to you,
Pat

Very beautiful post. Thank you. I surrendered my heart to the Lord while Softly and Tenderly was being sung at our church when I was young. The old hymns mean more to me as I get older.

If only our country would heed His call. So many choose to live without Him, thinking of Him as a crutch. Yet they limp along, not seeing their need for the One who could be easing their burdens and making them well. Much love, dear girl!

Gorgeous photos of the lovely flowers. Isn't it precious that Jesus, the Son of the living God the universe, would call us! I'm so glad I answered His call. Hugs

Boy was I transported back in time to the little church I grew up in 😊 This hymn was a "staple altar call" song. It's a beautiful reminder that our Savior wishes none to perish! Happy Sunday.

Another good, old hymn! I heard it earlier today when I was working. I have a resident who is 97 years old with dementia but he remembers the hymns well, and we often hear him singing them. This was one he was singing today. :) I love that and the testimony he shows. His faith is such a comfort to him, even when confused.

I haven't heard this hymn for a very long, long time and I don't even know if I could sing it now. I can only vaguely remember the tune. Lovely.

Good morning dear one. OH THANK YOU for coming to visit and listen to my blog post! I would LOVE to hear back from you to see if you were able to find the music to the piece that is playing on my post. Isn't that amazingly haunting?

Do enjoy finding it and playing it. Maybe YOU could record yourself playing it!
