In The Bleak Midwinter

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
in the bleak midwinter, long ago.

Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain;
heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
but his mother only, in her maiden bliss,
worshiped the beloved with a kiss.

What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
yet what I can I give him: give my heart.
- Christina G. Rossetti -

Sweet friends,
this post was shared on my blog three years ago.
Normally I don't reshare what I write since I like new and fresh content,
but this last week has been incredibly busy
and I did not get a Sunday post written - forgive me.
I sincerely hope you enjoyed this song
and the pictures of the glorious snow
{even if it's one you saw and read years ago}.

Have a blessed Lord's Day!
Love and hugs to you!

In the bleak midwinter ..... brings back such fond memories - used to sing this in choir when I was a teenager and I still remember the words. Thanks for the happy reminder.

It is worth seeing twice. Truly awesome wintry wonderland. Glad we do not get weather likes this in Texas tho.

"What can I give Him,I can give Him my heart." That's all God wants from us,a heart in love with Him.
Though we may have seen this post, oooh it is so beautiful in words and photos.
All that snow shows forth the glory of God and His majestic power.
Have a beautiful and restful day~~

Wow! These photos are amazing. You need a sweater on after viewing this post, LOL. How can people see this beauty and not know that there is a God, my heart goes out to them . . . He's all around us.
Have a blessed day.
Connie :)

Dearest Stephanie, we all have busier times than others, and it's a joy to see this post with the amazingly beautiful wintry photos! And I agree with your mom, what more can we give Him...but that of our hearts. Praise God that He has drawn us to Himself and that we are to reflect His glory growing ever closer to Him. Hugs and love, sweet Stephanie! xoxo

Are you kidding me Stephanie - this is such a beautiful post, I think you should use it every year. The pictures are divine and the snow scenes are truly a gift from God - how else could they be so beautiful. Isn't Christina Rosetti's quote a hymn? I just know I love it!
I do love winter most of all - the quiet of beautifully falling snow. And I really do love to bundle up or fix only the stews that are fantastic when it is cold. I wonder what I am doing in Florida. Thank you for a most glorious post!

I love that song, I missed seeing this before so thank you so much for repeating it. The photos are spectacular! I don't like the cold of winter, but I do enjoy photographing snow and ice and seeing such photos.

I think it's a pretty post, so I don't mind! I have been extremely busy, also! I make all my family members gifts every year, and for some reason, I thought it would be a great idea to make my middle son a quilt--a large quilt--while trying to do housework, tend to a baby, run my Etsy shop, homeschool, run errands...I think I must be crazy! So, you won't hear any negative comments from me about not having a blog post!

I've been crazy busy too and taking a break as well, so I get it. This post was so refreshing though - love that song and the beautiful photos!

Stephanie, is it snowing in your area right now? In these pictures, I love how the trees are all covered in snow. I often get overjoyed when I see pictures of snow, as we don't get to see it much where I live, unless we go up to the mountains about an hour away. I always wondered what it would be like to open my front door and see a blanket of snow. Wishing you wonderful days leading up to Christmas, dear one.

love, ~Sheri

Dearest friend,
I am smiling ear to ear as I take in these precious words reminding me of our precious Lord. Especially these do I love so much... "In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ."
I am so very glad you decided to reshare this beautiful post.
What a glorious winter wonderland you captured. And such a beautiful reminder of God's creation. I just love staring at snow scenes, too, because it makes me think of how our Savior has removed that stain of sin until we are white as snow in His eyes.

You are thought of often and I send many hugs and blessings your way always♥

Well, I hadn't seen it before! I'm glad you shared : )
The words by Christina Rosetti are so moving, the tune sets this carol apart, fragile and evocative..and your stunning pictures are literally the icing!

I am wondering if all the scenes are local to your home? Probably not but I know you get a lot of snow sometimes!
Blessings, dear Stephanie!
