Blessed Quietness

I will hear
what God the Lord will speak. . .
- Psalm 85:8a -

Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home.

Bringing life and health and gladness,
All around this heav’nly Guest,
Banished unbelief and sadness,
Changed our weariness to rest.

Like the rain that falls from Heaven,
Like the sunlight from the sky,
So the Holy Ghost is given,
Coming on us from on high.

See, a fruitful field is growing,
Blessed fruit of righteousness;
And the streams of life are flowing
In the lonely wilderness.

What a wonderful salvation,
Where we always see His face!
What a perfect habitation,
What a quiet resting place!

Blessed quietness, holy quietness,
What assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea, He speaks peace to me,
How the billows cease to roll!
- Manie Payne Ferguson -

The Holy Spirit performs many important ministries
in the life of a Christian.
One of these is to give us a calm and tranquil spirit,
despite the circumstances of life that may come our way.
- Kenneth W. Osbeck -

Speak, Lord, in the stillness,
While I wait on Thee;
Hushed my heart to listen,
In expectancy.

Speak, O blessed Master,
In this quiet hour;
Let me see Thy face, Lord,
Feel Thy touch of power.

For the words Thou speakest,
They are life indeed;
Living bread from heaven,
Now my spirit feed!

All to Thee is yielded,
I am not my own;
Blissful, glad surrender,
I am Thine along.

Speak, Thy servant heareth,
Be not silent, Lord;
Waits my soul upon Thee
For the quickening word.

Fill me with the knowledge
Of Thy glorious will;
All Thine own good pleasure
In Thy child fulfill.

Like a watered garden,
Full of fragrance rare,
Lingering in Thy presence,
Let my life appear.
- Emily May Grimes -

Have a blessed
and peaceful Lord's Day,

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks so much for your post today. It added another blessing as I've been very stressed today for several reasons and the message my husband and I listened to tonight from Mount Calvary Baptist Church in SC from Psalm 119 was spot on as well. Just what I needed. Thanks for your beautiful blog!

Blessings to you this coming week.

Love, Linda S.

Oh, praise the Lord! I love this dear, old song. It has blessed me so many times. I find that I am longing more and more to be still and listen to His voice. We miss out on SO much because we are so surrounded by noise. It saddens me to think of the many times I have allowed frivolous distractions to consume my free time, instead of sitting at Jesus' feet. Thank you for this beautiful post, sweet friend. God bless you!

Oh, your yellow roses are gorgeous, Stephanie, and that tea cup is just as pretty. Yellow is such a cheerful color, isn't it? And with all the rain we're having right now, it really brightens my day. What a unique tea cup this is. It looks like a rainbow tea cup. :) Always love and appreciate your Sunday posts, sweet friend.

I love the poem by Emily Grimes, and how sweet the presence of the Lord is, to come to us and lighten our hearts, just as your words, pictures, and post have done today. Blessings and hugs to you dear friend!

I love these gorgeous yellow roses. This blog is so beautiful. So often we do so much talking to the Lord that we miss what He is saying to us. I want to listen closely so I can hear His voice. Bless you, Stephanie. Hugs.
