Sweet Family Moments

Hello, my sweet and lovely friends!
Two weeks ago my hubby, son, and I enjoyed a little getaway.
We took in a Rockies game
and enjoyed a train ride up Pikes Peak.
I thought I would share some photos with you from our time away.

While I have lived in Colorado for many, many years
I have never been to the top of Pikes Peak until now.
My, what a view!

We rode the Cog train up to the top
and if you ever have the opportunity to visit Pikes Peak
I would recommend riding the train.
It adds so much more to the trip.

The view up to the top was simply beautiful.
Forgive the glare in the photos
as the pictures were taken through glass.

As you can see from the next photo
we are above timberline and almost to the top.

We stepped outside of the train and the view took my breath away.
Everything was so beautiful and clear.

The clouds were right there. . .
so close you could almost touch them.

The day we went was the first day in almost a week
that the train made it to the top.
Being so high up means there are often severe weather conditions
that include snow, low clouds, and wind.
We were blessed with a clear and beautiful day.

At the top of Pikes Peak
is a monument for "America the Beautiful"
written by Katharine Lee Bates.
While riding the train up to the top the conductor was very informative
and along the way she pointed out "Inspiration Point"
which was the view Katharine saw
and where she was inspired to write the lovely lyrics to "America the Beautiful."

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
- Katharine Lee Bates -

At the top of Pikes Peaks there is a sweet little gift shop
and inside you will find hot coffee and donuts. . .
extremely tasty donuts that they make above 14,000 feet.

Of course we sampled some :)

After wondering around and exploring the mountain top
we boarded the train and made our way back to the bottom.

We also attended a Rockies baseball game.
We saw them play the Dodgers
and I'm happy to say the Rockies won {{smiles}}

Tomorrow my husband and I will celebrate 10 years of marriage.
Wow!
10 blessed years!
I can't believe how quickly the years have gone by
and I am happy to say that each year only gets sweet and better.
I am ever so thankful for my wonderful husband.

Before I sign off, my friends,
I thought I would let you know that some new handmade delights
have been added to my Etsy Shop.

And of course I have to share a few photos of the kittens :)

Here we have Duke. . .
previously known as "Chubs."
We called him Chubs because he was the biggest out of the three,
but since we are keeping him we thought he needed a different
more masculine name :)

And here is Stripester. . .
The name "Willow" didn't stick with my son
since he was the one to originally name Stripester.

And sweet Melly Belle.

Have a fabulous day, friends,
and thank you for visiting!

Love and hugs to you.

Thank you for another wonderful trip to the top of Pikes Peak. Was there many, many years ago and we rode the tram. It was truly an awesome sight, but I do not do well at heights. Best wishes for many more blessed years of marriage. Get ready for this, my sister and her husband just had their 67th.

Oh I love the pictures of everything! Pikes Peak is beautiful! I will have to show my husband these pictures. Although he was there (with his family in his teens)he got sick because of the high altitude. Like Elizabeth said, it reminds her of Switzerland! I must agree, too! I was there back in 1990 in Mission work. I want to go back someday.

Have a great Anniversary tomorrow!

Anniversary Blessings to you and your husband. Today is our forty-second. The mountain views are truly majestic. I am four hours away from the Canadian Rockies and manage to go once a year. There is definitely something very clear about the wonder of creation when we encounter the mountains that is beautiful and humbling. Enjoyed your sharing. Jacqueline

What beautiful pictures! YEARS ago I drove up to Pikes Peak with relatives and we hiked around a bit. I was stunned by all of the snow up there when it was so nice and warm down below. Your new things added to your shop are like candy -- all look so sweet and tempting! Congratulations on ten years -- time does fly when you're with the one you love!

Oh, Stephanie, what a JOY to read your post today and to see the photos of just a bit of God's amazing creation! The trip must have been breathtaking (in more ways than one), and I did not know that Pikes Peak was what inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write the lyrics to "America the Beautiful." I always tear up when I hear it played or sung. And how dear are those kitties! So precious and so much fun! And what a great way to enjoy the top with donuts and also to enjoy the baseball game (and to have your team win!). What beautiful new items you've made. You certainly have been gifted by the Lord in so many ways, and I count it all joy to know you as friend! Love and hugs! xoxo

Hi Stephanie, Congrats to you and your husband on your upcoming anniversary. I enjoyed your photos with your husband and son. You are truly blessed. So happy you rode the train to Pike's Peak. Some 40 years ago, my dad traveled to Colorado for work and shared his experience to Pike's Peak with us when he returned. I know your son loved attending the game and so happy you guys won!
I love viewing your sweet treasures in your shop. Have a blessed evening. xoxo

Oh, what a truly majestic place to visit and to behold. The scenery is truly breathtaking! Love that cute, red train. Love the photos of you and your little family. My goodness, your son is growing tall. I can just imagine sitting in that little gift shop, drinking coffee and enjoying delicious donuts whilst drinking in the scenery before you. Sweet, sweet litle kitties. Beautiful wedding photo of you and your husband. Happy 10 year anniversary, sweet Stephanie.

I have heard of Pike's Peak but hadn't known there was a train that went to the top - the views are spectacular!! And to be rewarded with doughnuts at the top has to be a definite bonus. I enjoyed reading about how the view there inspired the lyrics for the song. And of course - the cuteness all wrapped up in kitties - so jealous!

What a wonderful getaway for such a sweet family! I didn't know that the song, "America the Beautiful" was inspired by the lookout from Pike's Peak. Having a donut and a drink at the top would've been my kind of treat for sure. Thank you for sharing your great photos of your trip, and also your lovely wedding pic. Happy 10th Anniversary to both of you, and I hope you have many, many more! xxoo

What a wonderful post! We visited Colorado about 8 years ago when our son was stationed there. We visited Pikes Peak, and drove to the top. It was a scary drive, the train would be better! Beautiful views though!
Happy Anniversary! A loving, Christian spouse is a huge blessing.
I love the kittens - they are adorable!

Happy Wednesday, dear Stephanie!

My, what stunning pictures of a stunning place! The majesty of the Lord ♥ It looks like you all had a spectacular time {{smiles}}

Oh, wow! The sweet kitties have gotten so big and grown up. I love the names you all have chosen and am so happy that you decided to add them to your family as permanent members. It is a strong belief in our home that a house is not a home until there are cats (note- more than one!!) running around. How they make life so much more fun and happy! Your Duke looks just like our Duncan did at that age. He is now almost 10 months old!

I hope you are having a delightful week, and I'm so glad that I got to stop by for a little visit. I must share that the Bible you wrote about on Sunday is a true beauty. I received one myself for review and wow! It is gorgeous, and in so many ways {{smiles}}

Many blessings to you,
Libby

So wonderful it was such a nice day for you to make it to the top. We went many years ago when we were living in Texas we went up there for our anniversary, we drove up but didn't make it to the top because of snow and that was in October, would be great to go back and take the train ride, I am sure you could enjoy it so much more that way.
So cool your team won the game, that always makes for a fun day at the ball park :)

Congrats you two on 10 years and may God bless you with many more wonderful years together!!

Stephanie, your photos are lovely at the top of Pike's Peak! How exciting it must have been to take the train. It's nice to know the back story of America the Beautiful! Happy Anniversary! I love the sweet photos of you and your husband and of your cute son. The weather certainly cooperated to allow such a beautiful day. Have a wonderful weekend. ♥

Ohh Stephanie! How my heart soared with yours as I read of your exciting visit to Pike's Peak! I know how it can be, to live so close to amazing local attractions, and yet never find the time to visit them. What joy to be able to ride the train all the way to the top, after other days not going so well for the train. Oh the views were spectacular! Reaching out to touch the clouds, wow! Those doughnuts sure looked delicious, quite a feat to make them at such an altitude, how long would it take to even get the oil to boil to cook them?!!

And those sweet kitties! I love their new names... sometimes it takes a while to figure out their personalities and how to name them! You will have a full house of love and silliness with all of them together :)

I hope you have a wonderful and very special Memorial Day weekend, celebrating both your anniversary and your husband's birthday! Our weekend plans include lots of work. We camped last weekend, which I just blogged about, and so this weekend we must get back to work around our place - planting, house maintenance, and the never-ending tree mess we are clearing up. But, we are thankful for warm and sunny skies!

Hugs to you today dear friend, such a blessing your posts always are :)

Happy Anniversary to you and your husband! May God grant you many, many more happy years together!! Your little boy is getting so big! They grow up way too fast. God bless you, sweet friend. :)

What a beautiful view of Pikes Peak. There was an episode on Dr. Quinn when all the pioneer gals hiked to the top of Pikes Peak. It's one of my favorite episodes, and your post reminded me of that. Colorado is so pretty, Stephanie, and my best friend just moved from Colorado back home to Calif. The gift shop sounds delightful, and the coffee and doughnut looks Yummy. How fun to ride the train up to the top, and it looks as if the clouds were right there with you.

Happy Anniversary, sweet friend. May you have many more years of happiness.

Have a nice Memorial Day weekend.

Happy Anniversary, Stephanie and hubby! What a beautiful couple!

Your excursion to Pikes Peak must have felt like you were on top of the world! The breathtaking views, the snow, the clouds, the fresh mountain air, all so invigorating, I am sure. We have many similar peaks in our neck of the woods, which we visit in the winter, although I can still spot snow capped mountain peaks from our flowery meadows, below.

Happy Sunday and Memorial Day, tomorrow!
