Give Of Your Best To The Master

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the LORD Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
- Colossians 3:17 -

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth.
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example,
Dauntless was He, young and brave.
Give Him your loyal devotion;
Give Him the best that you have.

Give of your best to the Master;
Give Him first place in your heart.
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you will be given;
God His beloved Son gave.
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.

Give of your best to the Master;
Naught else is worthy His love.
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur,
You from sin’s ruin to save.
Give Him your heart’s adoration;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain:
Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth.
Clad in salvation’s full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

A Psalm Of Life
by  H. Wadsworth Longfellow

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
"Life is but an empty dream!"
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
"Dust thou art, to dust returnest,"
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Find us farther than today.

Art is long, and time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act - act in the living Present!
Heart within and God o'erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labour and to wait.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do,
do it with thy might;
for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom,
in the grave, whither thou goest.
- Ecclesiastes 9:10 -

And let us not be weary in well doing:
for in due season we shall reap,
if we faint not.
- Galatians 6:9 -

And whatsoever ye do,
do it heartily, as to the LORD, and not unto men;
Knowing that of the LORD
ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance:
for ye serve the LORD Christ.
- Colossians 3:23-24 -

I haven't heard that song for some time. It's such a good reminder that what we do, isn't done for us, or a boss... but for the Lord! Thanks for the good things to think on this Sunday!

Lovely, sweet friend. Colossians 3:17 is my life verse so it was special to see it here. The hymn and poem go so well together. The remainder of the Scriptures that you have used are all such great reminders to me to give my all to whatever I am doing because I am doing it for my Master. Hugs to you, Stephanie.

What a delightful song, I've never heard it. The message is one this world needs to hear! Giving ourselves first to Him is truly our investment into eternity. And I love the Psalm of Life too. Sweet pictures that you took too :) Blessings and hugs to you today dear friend!

Oh, my, Give of Your Best to the Master, brings back so many memories. I was raised on that song. I'm sure my children have never even heard of it. What a shame! I do like the new contemporary songs but they will never take the place of the good ole hymns. Blessings sweet Stephanie!

Thank you for this lovely post. Timely that I'm reading it today as I don't feel much like working so it's a good reminder to 'give of my best to the Master' -- HE is the one we are working for!

Oh my, Stephanie! This is such an old and cherished hymn! I love it and can still hear us all singing it at church! Oh, the wondrous memories of singing in our little old church when people sang their hearts out to the Lord...praise God! Oh, that we would more lift our voices and hearts in praise and worship to the God of Heaven! Thank you for sharing such rich, wonderful words--reminding us to give all to Him...all our praise and talents. May He be glorified! Love and hugs! xoxo
