Make Me A Blessing

Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
Proverbs 11:11

Make Me a Blessing
Ira B. Wilson

Out in the highways and byways of life,
many are weary and sad;
carry the sunshine where darkness is rife,
making the sorrowing glad.

Tell the sweet story of Christ and His love,
tell of His pow'r to forgive;
others will trust Him if only you prove true,
every moment you live.

Give as 'twas given to you in your need,
love as the Master loved you;
be to the helpless a helper indeed,
unto your mission be true.

Make me a blessing, make me a blessing!
Out of my life may Jesus shine.
Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray;
make me a blessing to someone today.

Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

Have a blessed Lord's Day, precious friends!

Good morning dear Stephanie,
The second verse of the song reminds me of the words of Saint Francis of Assisi,
"Preach the gospel; use words if necessary."
Restful Sunday to you and yours.

Good morning Stephanie! Make me a channel of blessing too! I love the old hymn..."make me a channel of blessing today..make me a channel of blessings I pray!" The Matthew 5:16 verse is one on my heart lately.. I have it written on my chalkboard..Matthew 5:14-16.. Also, one of the first I memorized. My hubby and I have been praying about where the Lord would have us serve in the community we have been planted in...these verses are how He is speaking to our hearts.. Thanks for sharing this today.. have agreat Lords Day! Blessings!

Stephanie, I think I remember this song. The words are familiar but I can't think of the tune.

I love this old hymn. I remember my grandmother and mother playing it on the piano and singing it. They both lived out the words to this song.
Thanks for the reminder to be a blessing to others.

The phrase on here today reminded me of a song that we sing in church....

We are the light of the world, may our light shine before men, that they may see the goodness we do and GIVE GLORY TO GOD!

Thank you for this gentle reminder today, Stephanie.

Ooops, I think it's "may our light shine before all." I haven't heard it in awhile, and it's a favorite of mine. :~)

Oh, Stephanie! This is such a wonderful hymn that brings back so many precious memories growing up!! This one a very special hymn that we used to sing, and I remember it was one that so many of us would request when we had a hymn sing and we would call out the hymn numbers. And we would sing the harmony so beautifully! Thank you for sharing this one and for the beautiful photographs that are just stunning! Hugs, precious friend! You are a joy!
