Sun Of My Soul

I walked into my bedroom the other day and was greeted with the lovely sight
of sunshine streaming through the windows onto my roses.
It reminded me of warmth, happiness, and beauty.

Jesus taught us that we can learn much from the lilies of the field.
How do they grow?
By struggling and seeking to display their beauty?
No, they simply open themselves to the existing sun,
and in their sun-centeredness, they grow and become objects of beauty for all to enjoy.
The sun is one of the most important factors in nature's growth.

My friends, we also need sun for our souls -
the warmth of God's love and presence in our lives.
We were created for this in order to be complete persons.

Thou has made us for Thyself, O God,
and our hearts are restless till they find rest in Thee.
- St. Augustine -

Sun of My Soul
written by John Keble

Sun of my soul, Thou Savior dear,
it is not night if Thou be near;
O may no earth-born cloud arise
to hide Thee from Thy servant's eyes.

When the soft dews of kindly sleep
my weary eyelids gently steep,
be my last thought;
how sweet to rest forever on my Saviour's breast!

Abide with me from morn till eve,
for without Thee I cannot live;
abide with me when night is nigh.
for without Thee I dare not die.

Be near to bless me when I wake,
ere thru the world my way I take;
abide with me till in Thy love
I lose myself in heaven above.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
- Psalm 84:11 - 12 -

Have a blessed and sun-filled Lord's Day, friends!

I spent last year reading The Confessions of St. Augustine as part of my daily quiet time. How rich and wise he was! Such a gift he left us in his words!

Darling friend, I had to make a very tough decision yesterday, that left me in tears all day long. I could not function. It tears my heart apart to have to leave posting blogs, but I will be visiting others from time to time. SEVEN YEARS.....I thought I'd make it to at least 10. God is good however, and there are other things to follow now. Blessings to you, Anita

Dear Stephanie, Once again you have managed to post something that blessed my heart! As I was reading that first line --
Sun of my soul, Thou Savior dear, it is not night if Thou be near; --I thought YES, the Lord Jesus shines brightly, guiding me through the darkest hours/days/weeks/years of grief. Thank you for such an encouraging post for all who travel a 'dark' road. {{hugs}}

Gorgeous roses, and what a stunning color. This is funny because Nel just sent me some rose pictures she took when the sunlight was coming through. It makes the flowers look different when there's so much sunlight. And do tell me what filter you used for the edges. It is soft and lovely. We do need sunlight, don't we? And I get plenty of it living in California. Sun of my Soul.......I like that.

Have a blessed week, dear.

What a refreshing post, sweet friend! As all of your posts are ♥ The photos in your post are breathtaking and so resplendent; those roses you captures so beautifully soaking up the sun streaming through the window made me feel as if I were basking in the light as a rose. How similarly warm and joyous a feeling it is to bask in the light of our great Savior. It is so wonderful to read the encouragement you shared- I always find myself so peacefully uplifted in faith and all things after reading your words, as well as here the writings of John Keble.
I am thankful for the blessed reminder at the end of the Psalm you shared, as well... "blessed is the man that trusteth in me." How deep that prayer is in my heart, to trust Him always and more than I ever have with each day.

Love and hugs to you, dear friend!
Have a wonderful evening♥
