Life Lately. . .

Good morning, my friends!
How I missed each one of you last week while I was away!
I truly hope you had a beautiful week and I trust you had a blessed Easter
celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior-
He IS Risen!

I want to thank each and every one of you for the birthday wishes. . .
you are so kind and thoughtful :)
My birthday week was extra special because of you, dear friends.
My sweet husband took my son and me on a little getaway
where we enjoyed some shopping, some fun, and some relaxation.
Like always, it ended way too soon!
I thought I would share with you what we did
and what we found at some antique stores. . .

To begin with we of course had to drive to where we were going :)
Nothing too exciting along the way.
The trees are just starting to bud out - don't you love seeing new life?!

As were were driving to the hotel the sun was beginning to set
which caused the rocky hills to "glow" with a soft blush color. . .
I tried to capture the beauty while we were driving by the hills,
but it was definitely prettier in person.

We arrived at our hotel.

And look at what greeted us! :)

Up to the room we go. . .
My son of course loved staying in the hotel and wanted to live in it :)
Why is it when were are children we want to stay in this kind of place forever?
I remember as a young girl I wished we could live in a hotel.
Anyway. . .

We went swimming.
Do you see the Mountain Lion laying on the rock?
He was our Life Guard. . .or maybe he was just waiting for a snack :)

And of course delicious food was on the menu.

Wednesday evening found us at a lovely church with delightful fellow believers.

Bowling was a MUST and we played several games on Tuesday and Wednesday :)

And in honor of my birthday my darling husband took me antique shopping.
Oh, what fun we had!

This was the year for tea cups and there were several that won my heart.
There were five that came home with me. . .

I also found some vintage lace.

And some pretty linens and doilies.

And to top it off I found this beautiful Sacred Poems book.
It was the last thing I found at the last antique store during the last minute :)
It has already become very special to me.

The book was published in 1874
and has a wonderful collection of authors such as:

Lord Byron
Philip Doddridge
Wadsworth H. Longfellow
James Montgomery
Augustus M. Toplady
Isaac Watts
Charles Wesley
Edward Young

just to name a few.

And no trip is complete without a visit to Hobby Lobby *smiles*
I have been eyeing this camera fabric for a while so I finally broke down and purchased some.
I think it would look adorable used for a 50's style dress.
I also got black lace, polka dot fabric, and buttons to go along with the camera fabric.
I'm not sure what I will do with it, but I have my thinking cap on - any ideas?

So. . . that was our trip in a nutshell :)
I appreciate you letting me share it with you, sweet friends.

One more thing before I close this lengthy post. . .
Some of you know that my son shares the same birthday as me
{ that was not planned, but he was definitely a precious gift :) }
and I told a few of you through emails that I was making a football cake
and you had asked if I would share it on my blog.
I am no cake decorating expert so bare with me as I show you a photo of the cake. . .
{ I just realized I put the number on backwards! Oops! :) }

My little one is really, really, really into football right now.

The cute treats in the cups were made by my one and only sweet mom :)
The kids and adults enjoyed them!

Okey dokey, I think that is enough pictures for one post, don't you think?
Sorry it was rather picture heavy, but I hope you enjoyed everything :)
Have a lovely day my friends!
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at Roses of Inspiration.

Goodness! Those are the most charming tea cups I have ever seen, dear Stephanie! I dearly love them all! What a treasure to find that pretty book of poems too...we don't get things quite like the lovelies you found on your getaway in South Africa... I think I will have to take a quick trip to your wonderful country and raid the amazing antique shops you have!! That does sound like fun!

Now, I am very impressed with your football cake...we have no little boys in our home and I've always wanted a brother to make boyish things for! Well done!! Happy birthday to your son - aww! He was born on your birthday! What a gift indeed!

Hugs and much, much love to you!
We all missed you lots!

I get that way too, especially at The Barn sale we have here every couple of months. They are so cheap, I just can't leave them behind! You did a great job on the cake. I remember you were a little worried before you started it. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it all. Oh my friend, WHAT FUN!!!!! And I also scored this past week (while on spring break) by finding a gem of an antique store right in my neighborhood! Actually TWO of them I discovered and walked home with a special lavender tea cup. That forget-me-not one of yours is simply SWEET! Isn't it fun to come home with a little memento of your stay? I bet your son enjoyed himself so much just being with you. I remember as a child staying in hotels with my parents, and what an adventure that was!!!
