Patriotic Tissue Pom Poms

It will be celebrated. . .
with pomp and parade. . .
bonfires and illuminations
from one end of this continent to the other.
- John Adams -

Hello, sweet friends!
The 4th of July is quickly approaching {only 2 weeks away}.
I was looking around my home the other day
and realized I don't have any red, white, and blue out. . .shame on me!
So I went through my craft room and found a few items that would work
to bring some Patriotic loveliness to my home.

May I show you what I did with some paper straws and tissue paper. . .

First of all these cute red jars were found at Michaels for $1.50 each.
My kitchen is vintage with red and blue accents so I purchased the jars for future use :)

The paper straws were also found at Michaels for $1.50.

Now for the tissue pom poms. . .
I took four sheets of white tissue paper and placed them on top of each other.
Then, I folded all four together in an accordion style - back and forth.

Out of the folded tissue paper I cut three small strips and rounded the edges.

I tied a piece of ribbon around the middle.

Then, I began to very gently pull the tissue out to create a pom pom.
As you pull the tissue out simply "fluff" as you go
so that the pom pom is nice and full.

I cut a small slit at the bottom of the straw.

Next, I applied a dab of hot glue to the bottom of the pom pom
and then slipped the straw onto the fold.

And that's it, sweet friends.
Now the pom poms are ready to be placed into the jars.

Some good ol' red, white and blue charm.

The more tissue paper you put together
the fuller your pom poms will be.
Since mine were small I thought four pieces of tissue paper was plenty.

Then join hand in hand,
brave Americans all
By uniting we stand,
by dividing we fall.
- John Dickinson -

I placed my Patriotic pom poms on my dining room table
for some lovely red, white and blue charm.

Thank you so much for stopping by, sweet friends!
May you have a delightful weekend!

Those really are quite cute, Stephanie!
I too made those tissue pom poms when I was young, I guess that is dating us women that are saying that. :) We all seem to be the same age.
You've inspired me to look around and make for a festive look in the home.
I seem to be behind time these days... Just can't get caught up and get back into the groove of things. Sigh...

Love that hat!!! But of course you know that. :)

Love you ~ Mom xoxo

Hi Stephanie, what a wonderful red, white and blue display. Love your tissue paper flowers and how special they look with the straws and the red bottles.
I too create those flowers using vintage patterns and add then to wreaths, flower arrangements and gift toppers. One year I used white garbage bags. Cut them to the size for a flower and continued in the same manner. Once all the flowers were made added them to a wreath for outdoor use during the holidays.
Thanks for sharing your pretty display and tutorial.
As always you are an inspiration.
Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
Hugs and Blessings, cm

I used to love making tissue paper pom poms, Stephanie. Back in the day, we actually made them from tissues that you use for your nose!! They're much prettier from your kind of tissue paper. Your little display is so sweet, simple and patriotic. I hope that you have a lovely weekend too, sweet friend.

Those are so cute! They make me remember making flowers our of Kleenex when I was a kid. I hate to think how many I went through. My mom was very patient. :)
You've made me remember that I don't have any red, white and blue out either. I better get going, and maybe make some flowers while I'm at it. Thanks!
