'Tis The Blessed Hour Of Prayer

Fill me just now with power anew,
Power to pray and power to do!
- Albert S. Reitz -

'Tis the blessed hour of prayer, when our hearts lowly bend,
And we gather to Jesus, our Savior and Friend;
If we come to Him in faith, His protection to share,
What a balm for the weary!
O how sweet to be there!

'Tis the blessed hour of prayer, when the Savior draws near
With a tender compassion, His children to hear;
When He tells us we may cast at His feet ev'ry care,
What a balm for the weary!
O how sweet to be there!

'Tis the blessed hour of prayer, when the tempted and tried
To the Savior who loves them their sorrow confide;
With a sympathizing heart He removes ev'ry care-
What a balm for the weary!
O how sweet to be there!

At the blessed hour of prayer, trusting Him we believe
That the blessings we're needing we'll surely receive;
In the fullness of this trust we shall lose ev'ry care-
What a balm for the weary!
O how sweet to be there!

Blessed hour of prayer,
Blessed hour of prayer-
What a balm for the weary!
O how sweet to be there!
- Fanny J. Crosby -

There's a garden where Jesus is waiting,
And I go, with my burden and care,
Just to learn from His lips words of comfort-
In the beautiful garden of prayer.
- Eleanor Allen Schroll -

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.
- Joseph Scriven -

Sweet hour of prayer,
Sweet hour of prayer,
That calls me from a world of care. . .
- William W. Walford -

Blessings and love to YOU on this beautiful Lord' Day.

What a beautiful post, Stephanie.

Some Blogs are already loosing people because of the issue...sad to say...{{shaking my head}}

Many Happy Sundays to you sweet friend.

Such lovely comforting words.
This Google thing is a nuisance. I think I've got a Google account, but.....!

Melanie said...

Yes, Stephanie, I saw that too and posted on it a few days ago. I have a contact form on my side bar but I think I'll put a "follow by email" instead. I wish Google would leave things alone.

I saw a DVD of Fanny Crosby's life. She was a remarkable woman and her songs were definitely God-inspired. Have a blessed day.

Such a sweet and encouraging post,Stephanie, it really touched me.
I love your new look here.
Have a Blessed Sunday!

Beautiful post this morning. I love that quote from Victor Hugo. There is nothing quite so powerful as thoughtful prayer. I especially love when I catch myself doing it without realizing it.

It is too bad that those changes are being made. It can take a long time to "re-find" a blog. I probably still haven't found all the ones I lost a year ago when I woke up to find that my entire list had been deleted somehow.

Have a beautiful day Stephanie!

Thanks for the warning, Stephanie, but I "think" I am O.K., because I have a Google Blogger account. However, I do not have Google+, so I hope this doesn't mean they will be forcing people to get Google+...and if they are I am not overjoyed about it; in fact, I will be very annoyed. :(

As always, beautiful post, thank you so much for sharing.

Tears filled my eyes as I was reading all these sweet sayings about prayer! Oh how my heart longs to be closer to Jesus in my prayer life!!! That probably sounds bad but I can't think of anywhere I would rather be than closer to Him.

Blessings in this coming week, my dear Stephanie.

Hmmm...Google does some strange things and I have been out of the loop. I guess this means I will have even less followers now. Since starting over with a new URL, it has been tough! I have to admit, at times I have wanted to quit. Just when I think I am going to, something happens and I keep on going.

A beautiful Lord's day it is!
Stephanie, this is a lovely, God honoring post on prayer, Thank you.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible, Psalm 5:3 "My voice shalt thou hear in the morning o Lord, in the morning will I direct my prayer unto You, and I will look up." I love that last stanza, "I will look up. Praise the Lord! Life is so much sweeter when we're looking up, isn't it. :-)
Your photos are gorgeous, as is your header. You changed it up, love it!

Enjoy this beautiful day~~

I think this song was the story of Fanny Crosby's life in a nutshell.
Mine, too. The Lord has truly been just a prayer away all my life. :)

I couldn't tell you how many times I've join your site, but Googlely, Inc. keeps kicking me out. Ah well.

It's a great Lord's Day, anyway!

That Victor Hugo quote is so true! Your posts, especially your Sunday posts, are always so beautiful and share the most meaningful and important truths.

This is such a lovely hymn. I have to say that Blogger has truly annoyed me for the past several years...with all the changes they have done, I don't feel they have improved the blogging experience, instead it has become quite a hassle to read blogs and so forth. Like Anne, I think I'll move to WP and stay there... easier to read and follow. But I'll follow yours through email dear lady :0) mari

Such a beautiful post, dear Stephanie! I LOVE the words you shared here...especially, the words by Joseph Scriven. What a friend we have in Jesus, indeed! I have sat at the keyboard playing that lovely, old hymn over and over, as the tears spilled continually from my eyes. He IS a Friend that sticks closer than a brother...or anyone else. SO faithful is He! I do not understand completely about Google, either, but I already follow your precious blog by email, so thank the dear Lord, I will still get your sweet posts! God bless you, my dear, sweet friend. :)

Carrying everything to God in prayer sure takes the burden off of our shoulders, doesn't it my sweet friend? That's what I am learning to do and it's such a relief. I think your post was especially meant for me today.
I already have your posts emailed to me, and I'm not quite sure that I understand all these new rules with Google. I'll need to re-read the information that you provided. Thank you so much, Stephanie!
Loving hugs are sent to you!

Your gorgeous pictures, collage, quotes and your thoughts are a sweet tribute to the power that we have through prayer! Stephanie, thank you for sharing. I remember singing these hymns in church all of my childhood and into early adult years. I moved away and now go to a huge church where there are a lot of new songs and we don't sing from hymn books. I love the many ways we can worship our Lord and Savior. Thanks for the sweet reminder of these beautiful songs :)

We ought always to pray and not to faint - oh for His grace to pray!

You've created a lovely new header Stephanie and although I read your post on Sunday, I didn't feel up to commenting on many until today.
An inspiring post with some notable quotes, I shall have to send the one by Merri to a bible study sister who seems to know, and can sing practically any hymn you mention.
Thinking of you and hoping your cold is getting better.

You have created the most lovely set of mosaics, Stephanie. They create the perfect sense of peace that we all should have when we come to our Father in prayer. Beautiful in both image and in word. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Oh, precious Stephanie, what a glorious post that I so love! Your photos are always such a delight, and the hymns of old just ring in my mind and draw me back to the days when life was slower and we took more time with Him in prayer. I praise God for the morning times I have with Him and find those some of the sweetest times of the day...especially when there is a particular insight or something He brings to mind I need to care for. Oh, what sweet times of fellowship. Oh, to hear the tender calling of God through His Word and how the Holy Spirit works deep within us. And what a blessing to carry all our burdens to Him in prayer! Thank you, my sweet and dear friend! Much love and warm hugs!
