Basket of Easter Eggs

No winter lasts forever;
no spring skips its turn.
- Hal Borland -

Spring and Easter are just around the corner, my friends.
We have been enjoying some rather delightful spring-like days
here in the mountains.
The birds are singing and the snow is melting
which puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart.

And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb
on Earth’s dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.
-Percy Bysshe Shelley, "The Sensitive Plant" -

With Easter just a little over two weeks away
I thought it was time to add some spring charm to my home.
I made a darling little fabric basket
and filled it with fabric Easter eggs.

Here is how I made it, sweet friends. . .

Supplies Needed:

scrap fabric
fusible fleece or plain batting
spiky rose trim

Fold the fabric in half.

Tuck a piece of fusible fleece or batting
in between the folded fabric.

Trace a circle onto the fabric
and cut out
{my circle is about 8 1/2-inches in size}.

Make sure you keep the layers together.

After ironing the fusible fleece onto the inside of the fabric
you will want to sew all three layers together-
keep the seam near the edge of the circle.

Next, sew a gathering stitch along the top edge
and pull slightly to gather.
The tighter you gather it the smaller the opening will be for your basket.

Cut out 6 individual roses from the spiky rose trim
{can be found at Hobby Lobby}.
Glue the roses onto the edge of the basket. . .
the glue gives the edge a nice stiffness when done.
You want to place the rose on the center
and fold over on the inside and outside.

Once you have finished with the rose trim
you can add some sweet embellishments to the basket.

I simply made a small fabric flower
and added a pretty jewel to the center.

And there is your darling basket
perfect for spring and Easter.

This basket needs some little eggs,
don't you think?

I made the eggs with a small oval template.
After sewing and filling the eggs with batting
I embellished them with tulle, satin seam binding, pearls, and flowers.

Oh, Spring is surely coming,
Her couriers fill the air;
Each morn are new arrivals,
Each night her ways prepare;
I scent her fragrant garments,
Her foot is on the stair.
~John Burroughs, "A March Glee"

They fit perfectly in the basket
and they add a whimsical touch to my home.

 Spring has returned.
The Earth is like a child that knows poems.
- Rainer Maria Rilke -

The possibilities for these charming baskets are endless.
Here are a few others that I have made. . .

The baskets are perfect for storing your
jewelry, makeup, tea bags, and other little items in.

Happy creating, lovelies!

The sun has come out. . .
and the air is vivid with spring light.
- Byron Caldwell Smith, letter to Kate Stephens -

Love and hugs to you!

The Spring has come again
For the grass is growing green,
And among the fields of clover
Bright butterflies are seen.
The little birds are singing sweetly
As they fly from tree to tree...
The busy bees are gathering
The honey from the flowers,
And the merry birds are building
Their nests in sheltered bowers. . .

I must agree with Mary,I love watching the work of your hands. You have a beautiful way of teaching through your tutorials.
Those baskets have always been a favorite of mine, and certainly can be used with endless ideas. They are just lovely left to themselves too. :-)

Spring is in the air even with all the snow we have. The little barn swallows are so busy gathering for their nests and singing sweetly outside the kitchen window.
I start getting itchy feet this time of year wanting to play in the yard, but I will need to wait awhile longer. Until then...I'll keep busy deep cleaning the house so that I can rush out and not feel guilty playing outside most of the day once the weather is perfect.
I have big ideas for the flower garden this year. :-)

I hope you are enjoying this lovely day.
Love you~ Mom
