Kissed by a Cowboy - Book Review

Cassidy was looking for a home and a place to belong . . .
not for a cowboy to steal her heart.

Having lived through her parents’ endless string of "matrimonial bliss gone wrong,"
Cassidy Starr knows when the odds are not in her favor.
Divorced and humiliated, her faith on rocky ground,
Cassidy is through with love.
She’s been bucked off  that horse far too many times.
Instead, she returns to Wishing Springs, Texas,
and the rundown farm she’s inherited from her great aunt Roxie.
She’ll reopen the strawberry farm and a bed & breakfast and follow in her aunt’s footsteps,
remaining forever-independent, happy . . . and single.

Rancher Jarrod Monahan’s hands are full running the ranch,
looking after his ailing grandfather, and chasing down a group of rustlers on the loose.
He’s pushed his longing for a family to the bottom of his list of priorities.
Besides, he was in love once but ran scared and lost his shot at happiness.
But suddenly, the biggest regret of his life has moved in next door with a wounded heart,
determined to become a spinster . . . and that’s a challenge that Jarrod can’t pass up.

Jarrod sets his mind to breaking down the walls around Cassidy’s stubborn heart.
How can he show her that a cowboy’s kiss lasts forever?
For the good folks of Wishing Springs,
falling in love has never been so much fun to witness.

My Thoughts
Kissed by a Cowboy is not a book that I would typically request to review,
but it was sent to me by the Fiction Guild Team
{it's always a surprise to see what they send me}
and of course I was obligated to read and review it.
Before I even opened the book I had my mind set that I would not like the story. . .
Well, was I pleasantly surprised!
Almost from the first page I was drawn in and captivated by Cassidy
and the author, Debra Clopton, had me laughing by page 6.
And then Jarrod came into the picture and I was completely engaged.

First of all, this is the third book in Four of Hearts Ranch series
and having not read the first two books
I was a little apprehensive about reading this one first.
I needed not be concerned.
Yes, there are characters mentioned that were obviously in the first two books
including the main couples from book one and two,
but the author writes in a way that introduces the reader to them
as if they are simply ordinary, every day characters.

Cassidy is a gem.
She has been hurt and completely crushed by people that she thought loved her
and that heartache has left her a broken and bitter woman.
But deep down she is a beautiful jewel with a heart of gold.

Jarrod sees the precious beauty and strength in this woman
even when she comes across meaner than a grizzly bear
and he makes it his goal to chisel away at the walls Cassidy has built up
in order to reach the gold.

This is a touching story of hope, forgiveness, healing, and love.
The stories of both Cassidy and Jarrod shows the reader
that God can make all things beautiful in His time. . .
the key words being His time.
Bitterness and hatred can destroy a person,
but love and forgiveness can restore faith and love.
As both characters battle with bitterness
they slowly turn that bitterness over to God
and they soon realize that true healing comes only from the Lord
and with it comes beautiful joy and blessed freedom.

Cassidy and Jarrod's journey towards healing and love
won my heart from the beginning.
Kissed by a Cowboy is charming and a story you won't want to miss.
Humor, love, faith, and a touch of mystery can be found in the pages of this book.
You are sure to fall in love with Cassidy and Jarrod.

An Amish Market - Book Review

All the color and variety of a quaint Amish shop
in a charming collection of novellas
by four of your favorite authors.
Feel free to come in and browse!

Love Birds
by Amy Clipston

While Ellie Lapp and her mother are still mourning the loss of her brother, Seth,
Ellie starts working at one of the gift shops in town.
Seth’s friend Lloyd is talented at carving wooden birds,
but his father disapproves and expects him to take over the family farm someday.
Ellie sees the beauty in Lloyd’s creations
and insists Lloyd sell the birds in the gift shop where she works.
As Ellie and Lloyd spend more time together,
they begin to develop feelings for one another, but she accidentally betrays his trust.
Will she lose any hope of a future with him?

A Bid for Love
by Kathleen Fuller

Every week, Hannah Lynne brings her home-churned butter to the local market.
And every week Ezra stops by to purchase some.
Hannah Lynne knows not to read too much into it—
Ezra is a confirmed bachelor and barely even glances her way, despite any hope to the contrary.
But when Ezra bids an exorbitant amount to win the quilt she had her heart set on,
Hannah Lynne can’t stop her heart from taking over her mind.
Could Ezra finally be in the market for love?

Sweeter Than Honey
by Kelly Irvin

Shattering a jar of pickled beets wasn’t the impression Isabella hoped to make
on her first trip to the local Combination Store of Bee County, Texas.
But as embarrassed as she was by the accident,
she didn’t think it warranted the frosty reaction
from the handsome manager of the store, Will Glick.
As she soon learns, though, Will’s heart has been broken one too many times.
And now, for some reason, Isabella finds herself determined to be the one
to repair that broken heart and renew his faith in love.

Love in Store
by Vannetta Chapman

Stella Schrock works at the Old Mill in Nappanee, Indiana,
with new employee David Stoltzfus, a recent widower.
When strange happenings begin occurring around town,
it appears as if someone wants to close the mill.
Stella and David have to work together to solve the mystery
of what is happening at the Old Amish Mill,
and in the process they might just find that God has more in store for their future
than they would ever have dreamed possible.

My Thoughts
I am happy to say that each novella was a delight to read
and I appreciated the unique work and writing of each other.
While all four stories were well-written and enjoyable to read,
one novella won my heart and remained on my mind long after closing the book
and that sweet story was Sweeter Than Honey by Kelly Irvin.
I must say that Kelly Irvin is becoming one of my favorite authors
as I find her to be a talented writer that can weave a meaningful and heart-warming story-
I have yet to be disappointed by her books.

Sweeter Than Honey involves characters from
The Amish of Bee Country series
and if you read the second book The Bishop's Son
than you will be familiar with Will Glick.
I can't tell you how excited I was to read his precious story.
Even if you are not familiar with The Amish of Bee Country series
you will fall in love with Will.

These novellas are stand-alone stories,
but it was a joy to read a couple of stories that tied in with books
that I have already read.
Sweeter than Honey being one of them
and Love Birds being another as it was tied to
The Forgotten Recipe by Amy Clipston.

Each novella is unique and charming in its own way.
You get a taste of sweet romance,
a touch of humor, and a tad bit of suspense.
An Amish Market is the perfect book to enjoy on a lazy summer day.

Faith - Book Review

The Civil War battlefield is the last place Quakeress Faith Cathwell
thought she’d find herself.
But with a gift for nursing, Faith seizes this opportunity to join the fight for abolition-
and to search for Shiloh, a freeborn childhood friend
who was kidnapped and sold south by unscrupulous slave catchers.

Knowing it’s much too dangerous for her to search enemy territory alone,
Faith enlists the help of Colonel Devlin Knight,
who is indebted to her for saving his cousin’s life.
A career soldier, Dev is committed to the preservation of the Union
but conflicted about freeing his own slave and confidant,
who plans to enlist as soon as Dev gives him manumission papers.

Blazing a trail east with the rest of Grant’s army,
Dev and Faith fight their personal battles-
and a growing attraction to each other.
When beliefs clash and passions flare,
they quickly find that the only thing more dangerous
than the war surrounding them is the battle within their hearts.

My Thoughts
Faith is the third and final book in the Quaker Brides series.
You can find my reviews for the first two books by clicking on the titles:

While Lyn Cote is a phenomenal author
with loads of talent for writing a book that is rich in history and content
I felt Faith fell short of Lyn Cote's writing abilities.
I must confess that  the storyline was lacking and somewhat boring;
it was all I could do to persevere and finish the book
{it took me a week and it never takes me that long to read a book. . .never}.

The pros:
The war details were incredible and spot on
as was the history of the Civil War.

Many times after a battle took place I could picture in my mind
the heartache and devastation that awaited the nurses
thanks to Lyn Cote's detailed writing.
She wrote in a way that made you feel as though you were next to Faith
serving and helping the wounded men.

There was some mystery as Faith and her friend Honoree
searched for Honoree's sister, Shiloh.

It was a delight to have Honor from the first book
brought into the last book.

The cons:
The story itself seemed to drag with repetition.

The romance was also lacking.
Faith and Colonel Devlin Knight were obviously attracted to one another,
but throughout most of the book they do all they can
to distance themselves from romance
and then all of a sudden towards the end of the book
their relationship takes an exciting turn.

The main goal seemed to be finding Shiloh,
but that too was a slow process.
Finding Shiloh was often talked about,
but after a while it became too repetitive. . .
it was just the same talk over and over.

I will admit that I lost interest in the story after the 4th chapter
and didn't regain any interest until the last few chapters.

Please don't get me wrong,
I admire Lyn Cote and have always found her to be a wonderful writer.
Typically I enjoy her books, but sadly Faith didn't quite make the cut.
The first two books in the Quaker Brides series were excellent.

All-in-all I would give this book 3 stars.

of more than thirty-five novels.

Courageous Review and a Giveaway

Giveaway Closed

Hello, lovely friends!
I hope each one of you are doing well on this fine Thursday.
Today I have a delightful review to share with you. . .
a review for the DVD Courageous.

When FishFlix contacted me about reviewing a DVD from their website
I almost turned them down due to the fact that we don't watch many DVDs.
We don't even have a TV. . .just the good ol' laptop.
Before I gave my answer I decided to take a look at FishFlix
and was excited to see the variety of Christian DVDs they offer.
So I took them up on their offer and said I would review a DVD
and the one I was sent was Courageous.

My husband and I sat down one evening to enjoy a "date"
and the two of us were very impressed with this movie,
Now, my husband does not watch movies . .he just doesn't.
So for my sweet hubby to be impressed says a lot about the quality of this video.
Courageous is about four men who are different yet similar.
Different in the fact that they have their own personalities
and similar in the fact that they all realize they need the Lord
as the center of their families

* * * * * * * * * *

Courageous weaves all these stories together,
creating a beautiful masterpiece that stresses the great importance of fatherhood.
It is crucial that a family operate with both a father and mother,
or else children are much more likely to get into trouble
and begin fractured families of their own.
This movie is designed to inspire fathers to stand up
and do what is right and to become leaders in their family.
The role of fatherhood is not a passive one,
but requires action and input as well as time and energy.
It is the most important job of all.
No executive position in a company could ever be more important
or more fulfilling than fatherhood.
God calls men to step up and lead their families in the right way,
and Courageous is an inspiring reinforcement of this important message.

Courageous is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America
for some violence and drug content.
It is recommended that parents preview all content
to determine what is suitable for their families.

* * * * * * * * * *

The movie focuses on the Biblical truths of fatherhood
and it is sure to challenge any father or father-to-be
to be a man of God.
While this movie is directed towards fathers
it also inspired me as a mother.
It made me examine my life
and take a closer look at how I'm portraying the Lord as a mother.

Am I a testimony for Christ in my son's life?

Do I honor the Lord in all that I do?

Am I inspiring my son to have a closer walk with the Lord
because he sees how close I am with the Heavenly Father?

Do I love the Lord with me entire being
and does that love shine forth onto my son?

These are just a few questions that Courageous caused me to ask myself
and in many ways after watching the movie I was encouraged
and challenged to be a better mother.
It is a blessing for fathers AND mothers
and it shows you how important it is to have the Lord as the center of your family.
As a side note, I rejoiced to see that the true plan of salvation was presented in the movie
and it was a very clear and accurate message.
I cannot praise this movie enough
and I highly recommend it.

Take Time To Be Holy

But as he which hath called you is holy,
so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
- 1 Peter 1: 15 & 16 -

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.
- William D. Longstaff -

 Sanctify yourselves therefore,
and be ye holy:
for I am the Lord your God.
- Leviticus 20:7 -

To maintain the quality of life that God demands,
we must determine to take time to develop a life
that is genuinely and confidently holy in every area.
- Kenneth W. Osbeck -

Take time to be holy. . .

Have a blessed and joyous Lord's Day!
Sweet hugs to you!

I want to start with this tea cup photo because it deserves some special recognition. . .
Janice was the lovely recipient of this tea cup package
and it was sent by the sweet Kitty from Kitty's Kozy Kitchen.
You see, the lady that was supposed to send to Janice did not fulfill her promise
so dear Kitty came through and sent a package of love to Janice.

Another lovely lady that filled in and sent an extra package was Cindy
I can't thank these two ladies enough for being willing to send an extra package.
Their character is simply beautiful and I admire their willingness and selflessness
to make sure other participants were blessed when the original partner did not come through.
I do not have a picture of the goodies Cindy sent to Sophia,
but I wanted to acknowledge what Cindy did.
