Sweet and Shabby Patriotic Pillow

Good day to you, lovelies!
Thursday has arrived and the weekend is just around the corner.
My dear friends, will you be doing anything special?
I would love to hear about your plans.

Today I wanted to show you these delightful patriotic pillows that I made
using a lovely blogging friend's pattern.

Aren't they just the sweetest?

My wonderful friend Donna from Lavender Nest
shared a pillow that she had made which you can find here
and when I saw it I simply fell in love with it.

Donna was very kind to point her readers in the direction of
for the tutorial which you can find by clicking on the link below:

The tutorial is very easy to follow along
and I must say that once you start making the blocks
you'll want to keep making them as they are fun and addicting :)
I had intended to make only one,
but three later. . .

You might be wondering where the third one is.
Well, I made it with more country-type fabrics.

I used a cream, blue, and dusty rose color-theme.

I love that you can do almost any color
and it still looks like our American flag.

As you saw in the photos I kept one pillow "traditional" with the reds and blues,
but I stepped outside of the box and made one with pinks, blues, and whites.

I have to confess that it was very hard for me to keep from embellishing these pillows
with a fabric flower, pearls, or buttons.
You know how I love to embellish,
but there are some things that look beautiful just as they are
and these pillows are one of them.

I tucked my two patriotic pillows in a vintage crate by my tea cart.
What do you think?

And the other pillow looked nice on my bed. . .

But I knew it would look better in my mom's home
since she likes Primitive country decor so I gave it to her :)

Many thanks to Heather for the delightful tutorial!
I greatly appreciate her sharing her talents with us.
I hope you check her beautiful blog out
and make one of your own patriotic pillows.
You can find the tutorial here.

And thanks to sweet Donna for mentioning Heather's block tutorial.

Have a beautiful weekend, my friends!
And Happy 4th of July!

What a great, great idea! Thank you for sharing your pillows....and the link. I'm itching to participate in your annual teacup exchange. I love, LOVE tea - and all that goes with it. DH and I are planning a quiet weekend. From our house on the hill, we can see fireworks from all over the area. We'll sit on our front porch and enjoy the festivities.

Very nice, Stephanie! So I was a bit slow in picking up the flag design. I was too busy ogling the teacups on your tea wagon. Ha!

These patriotic pillows are so cute, Stephanie. The roses make them even more pretty. I love that little tea cart, it's so charming. I've been looking for a porcelain doll just like that. Once in awhile I see them at Home Goods. You know, Donna was one of my very first blog friends. She's a doll, and I've always liked her very much.

Happy Fourth of July, sweet Stephanie.

The pillows are lovely Stephanie, you are very creative. I tried my hand at the flag on a wooden hanger idea and my interpretation of our Canadian flag is on my blog now and has inspired a few others to give it a go.

The pillows are beautiful and there's nothing better than a quilt to get beneath. Even on a hot summer night, I turn the air down and sleep under my mama's quilt. I like for the house to me cool when I sleep.

Debbie said...

beautiful...i love the "unconventional" look of these, adding the pretty element!! i LOVE the quilt on your bed, it's just beautiful!!! i'm sure your mom appreciated you sharing, something she will treasure for sure!!!

Those pillows are so pretty, Stephanie! And the beige and dusty rose colored goes perfectly with the beautiful quilt - have you sewed that one too? Your creativity is of great inspiration, dear friend!
In just one week my summer holidays is about to start, and I plan to repare / mend some clothes and try to repurpose some things - and also knit and crochet some disclots of cotton yarn ... relaxing and easy to travel with (we're visiting my family in Finland - I'm looking forward of meeting everyone :)
Wishing you a Happy 4th of July,
love & hugs Nina
