In Christ Alone

My faith rests not in what I am,
or shall be,
or feel, or know,
but in what Christ is,
in what He has done,
and in what He is now doing for me.
- Charles Spurgeon -

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
- Keith Getty and Stuart Townend -

Almighty Father, You alone are holy,
You are my refuge, I will trust in You.
You are a tower, Almighty fortress,
You are my strength and shield,
You are God.

Almighty Father, You alone are holy,
You are Creator, You are all in all!
Yours is the power, Yours is the glory.
Yours is the majesty,
You are God.
- J. Paul Williams -

Oh, Stephanie, that is one of my favourite modern worship songs EVER! I think it must be among your top ones too?
The words and melody (at least the one I know) give me goosebumps!
Thank you for the wonderful reminder, dear friend and I hope you are enjoying a perect Sunday.

Blessed Lord's Day to you, precious Stephanie! And thank you for a beautiful post today. I love this wonderful quote by Spurgeon, and this is one of my all-time favorite worship songs that I love listening to (and singing)! The words are so very rich and dear to my heart, and there is never a time when I sing it that I don't tear up during the last verse - "Till He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I'll stand." Such precious and comforting words. Thank you for adding the beautiful photos of gorgeous poppies that always remind me of the fields of poppies from Europe and Australia that now grow as a living memory. Oh, that we would trust alone in Christ...He is and always will be enough! Precious love and hugs, dear friend!

There was a song I love with the chorus:

In Christ alone I place my trust
And find my glory in the power of the cross
In every victory let it be said of me
My source of strength, my source of hope is Christ alone

Thanks for the reminder of the song and the sweet promises of it and those you shared.

I think we Christians are living this song out to the full extent of the words. In this electronic age there's no place left to go for a better life, and there's no place we can hide from evil. More than in any other age that came before us, our hope is in Christ Alone. Thank the Lord for what He has done for us so we could live through Him. :)

Such beautiful and powerful words! Before we were knit in the womb, he knew us. That is so difficult for me to comprehend - I believe it, of course, but my human mind is incapable of grasping that depth of love!

Truly one of my favorite hymns of all time . . . especially the last verse. Love the story and progression it uses and as so many of the hymns . . . steeped in the truth of the Scripture. Hope your day has been lovely and full of worship!

You can hear me singing this hymn almost any day, at anytime of the day. Just as I am now.
