A happy and good day to you,
sweet friends!
I trust you are well. . .
Last week Hannah and I hosted a Lilla Rose giveaway
and as promised I will announce the winner today. . .
at the end of the post {{smiles}}
Right now I have some charming little coasters
I want to show you.
They are easy peasy to make
and they add some extra sweetness to the coffee table.
A few things you will need to whip up these coasters:
fabric or precut 5-inch charm squares
batting or fusible fleece
buttons {optional}
vintage doilies
I found this lovely vintage table runner at an antique store
and I have been cutting out the pretty little doily flowers for projects.
If you are using scrap fabric you will want to cut it into 5-inch squares
and of course you will need two squares for each coaster.
I used fusible fleece which I ironed onto the backside of one square.
If you are don't have fusible fleece than no worries,
just use quilt batting.
Pin the doily onto the top side of one square
and sew into place.
Now place the second square face down
onto the other square with the doily.
Pin into place and sew along the edges with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
Leave a small opening to turn the coaster right side out.
Once you have pulled it right side out
simply iron the coaster and top stitch along the edges.
This will take care of the small opening.
For the finishing touch I added some buttons.
I sewed them on last because I wanted them close to the edge of the coaster
so that the drinking glasses did not rest on them.
And that's it, my friends.
Some pretty and charming, but easy peasy doily coasters.
They are the perfect size for holding drinking glasses
and as you can see the little doily is also just the right size.
Whip some up for friends and family during the holiday season.
Tie some lovely little ribbon around the coasters
and voila!
A sweet handmade gift.
If sewing isn't your thing or you simply don't have time
please know that I have a couple coaster sets available in my Etsy shop.
Now without further ado. . .
let's announce the winner of the Lilla Rose giveaway!
I added the names to a bowl
and for those of you who liked The Shining Stars Magazine on Facebook
I entered your name twice.
The lovely name drawn was. . .

Stephanie, what a great idea! I would have never thought to use an old crocheted tablecloth in this way. Those coasters look like something I, with my limited crafty skills, could actually do! You make such beautiful things!

You are so creative! I wouldn't have thought to cut up a tablecloth for the doilies. You are a genius!!! And they are beautiful. I really like this idea. I gave my sewing machine to my daughter so I have been without one for over a year. A new friend here in VA has offered to give me one of hers that she doesn't use. God is so good to provide!!! Love & hugs, my friend!

The doily coasters are adorable, what a great idea to cut up a table runner. All your Etsy items are so cute too Stephanie!! Love Aunt Kelly
Your coasters are beautiful. Wish I had time to do some sewing. No one told me that I would be so busy when I retired! Love visiting your site. Hugs.
Your coaters are absolutely adorable!
Just love these pretty coasters. I have a question. In the picture your are sewing around the middle more solid part of the doily. Do you stitch down the scalloped edges of the doily too or just leave them?
Hi Joan! Thank you for the lovely little visit and kind comment. Yes, I stitched the center part of the doily AND the edges. I think you would be fine to simply stitch around the edges and not worry about the center.
Have a blessed day! Hugs--Stephanie
