Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind

Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our fev'rish ways;
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives Thy service find,
In deeper rev'rence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard,
Beside the Syrian sea,
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow Thee.

Drop thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm.
- John Greenleaf Whittier -

So often in our modern lives
we attach our problems with frantic and hurried activity,
creating unnecessary stress for ourselves.
We easily forget that our Heavenly Father can assist us in meeting'
our daily challenges with serenity and calm assurance.
We need the quiet confidence in God
and a peaceful resting in His eternal love
that is reflected in this beautiful text by John Greenleaf Whittier.
What a wonderful reminder to listen carefully
for God's "still small voice of calm"
in the midst of all of life's turbulence.

He giveth power to the faint;
and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
- Isaiah 40:29 -

The LORD will give strength unto his people;
the LORD will bless his people with peace.
- Psalm 29:11 -

Thinking of you on this beautiful Lord's Day,
dear friends!

"Reclothe us in our rightful mind" I just love that line, and how interesting that it was written by a Quaker poet. Thank you for sharing another new-to-me hymn.

The words quoted beneath the tea cup with the southern-belle is quite peaceful. I read it over and over again soaking in the words and reflecting on my Savior, the God of all peace.
Such a quaint and beautiful post with your jewels, tea cups and lace, just lovely.

Thank you for sharing your beauty with us on this gorgeous day of the Lord.

This part of the hymn touched my heart today:
Drop thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

Your beautiful collection of tea cups is so lovely to see, and all the pictures you took bring peace and serenity just to see. May the sweet presence of the Lord be with you today, and may His peace refresh your soul :)

GOod morning dearest Stephanie! His ways are the only way and the older I grow, the more I see the less I know. But He will take this flesh and transform us one day to see all truth. Thank you for your encouragement!

Oh to have God's wonderful peace flowing over us, something the whole country needs at these times, I am so sad to see people at odds with one another, i thought it would be better once the elections were over but it seems to be as bad as ever. May God gives us his healing grace!!
Hope your week is off to a great start!

Dearest Stephanie, what a beautiful post and one I so need. Thank you for sharing this post and the rich truth in the Word of God that calls us to rest...in Him...no matter the turbulence. He is always with us and the One in Whom we must and always can rest and hold on to. Our lives seem to go faster and faster, and yet it's up to us to say enough is enough...hold me, Lord. Sending hugs and love, and once again thank you for blessing us with Truth! xoxo
