The Precious Word of God

Holy Bible, Book divine,
Precious treasure, thou art mine;
Mine to tell me whence I came;
Mine to teach me what I am.

Mine to chide me when I rove;
Mine to show a Savior’s love;
Mine thou art to guide and guard;
Mine to punish or reward.

Mine to comfort in distress;
Suffering in this wilderness;
Mine to show, by living faith,
Man can triumph over death.

Mine to tell of joys to come,
And the rebel sinner’s doom;
O thou holy Book divine,
Precious treasure, thou art mine.
- John Burton Sr. -

Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
that I might not sin against thee.
- Psalm 119:11 -

O how love I thy law!
it is my meditation all the day.
- Psalm 119:97 -

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
- Psalm 119:105 -

Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but my words shall not pass away.
- Matthew 24:35 -

 The Spirit breathes upon the Word,
And brings the truth to sight;
Precepts and promises afford
A sanctifying light.

A glory gilds the sacred page,
Majestic, like the sun:
It gives a light to every age;
It gives, but borrows none.

The Hand that gave it still supplies
The gracious light and heat:
His truths upon the nations rise;
They rise, but never set.

Let everlasting thanks be thine
For such a bright display
As makes a world of darkness shine
With beams of heav'nly day.

My soul rejoices to pursue
The steps of him I love.
Till glory break upon my view
In brighter worlds above.
- William Cowper -

My dear friends,
I wanted to let you peek inside this wonderful
KJV Word Study Bible from Thomas Nelson.
Before I share my thoughts about this Bible
here is what has been written about it . . .

The KJV Word Study Bible includes in-text subheadings
and 1,700 easy-to-use word studies with select Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words
explained in every chapter from Genesis to Revelation,
helping you dig deeper into your Bible study.
By looking into these ancient texts
we are able to read scripture as it was originally written
and passed on from generation to generation, bringing these words to life
and allowing you to almost hear Jesus teaching on the hillside or crying out to God on the cross.
As you study you will discover the richness and significance
of the original languages of the Word of God and experience scripture in a whole new way.
Gain a clearer understanding of Scripture
as you dig deeper into your Bible study with the KJV Word Study Bible.

* * * Features * * *

In-depth word studies of key words and phrases in Scripture
Book introductions
Words of Jesus in red
In-text subheadings
Indexes by Strong's number, by English word, and book by book
Eight pages of full-color maps
Presentation page
Gold page edges
Ribbon marker
9.5-point text size
9.50" x 6.50" x 1.75"

First of all, the appearance of this Bible is quite lovely with its simplistic design.
The Bible itself is soft to the touch and very well made.

When I first opened this precious Book I turned to Genesis
and was immediately inspired to read and dig deeper into God's Word.
I was given the meaning of the greek word for Genesis
which is "source," "generation," or "beginning."
And then I read the Hebrew title Bereshith which means "in the Beginning."
 Before I even started reading the verses I was given a basic understanding of Genesis
which would help me as I continued on in my study of the book.
Foundation is key and understanding the meaning of words
will go a long way in our understanding of God's Word.

This Bible is not a reference Bible but rather a Word Study Bible.
Obviously the content of God's Word has not changed
but the word definitions and other study helps were very informative
when studying the Scriptures.
Understanding the meaning of certain words in the Bible
will not only increase your knowledge,
but also help you grow closer to the Lord.

Kenneth W. Osbeck says,
"The same Spirit of God who authored the Bible is the One who enilightens it
for our understanding and guidance."

In the back of the Bible you will find indexes for:

English Words,
Scripture Passages,
Hebrew Numbers,
Greek Numbers.

If you are new to word studies than I would highly recommend this Word Study Bible.
Even if you are a seasoned believer with years of wisdom under your belt
I think this would be a wonderful Bible to have on hand.
There have been several times during a sermon that I've used my new Bible
to learn more from the passage that's being presented.

 ** I was given a complimentary copy of this book from BookLook Bloggers
for an honest review.
All thoughts are my own and no other compensation was received. **

The Bible is the only book
whose Author is always present
when one reads it.

Read your Bible.
Pray every day.
And you’ll grow, grow, grow.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- Hebrews 4:12 -

All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3: 16, 17 -

Have a blessed Lord's Day
and a most beautiful week!

I have returned to the KJV after many years of wandering around in the NIV. This review was very helpful.

What a great, informative post, my friend! The study bible sounds like it would be most helpful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, and I hope you had a beautiful Sunday! Love and hugs are sent to you.

What a lovely Bible! We just bought my dear husband a new one that is somewhat similar to this one. There is no substitute for the KJV in my opinion...pure, unadulterated, and accurate. When I think of all King James and his men went through to preserve its original integrity and intent and also all of the blood that has been shed in order to pass it down to you and me, I am just overwhelmed with gratitude to our dear Lord! God bless you for sharing this lovely post and review, sweet friend. :)

You've written a great review Stephanie, an have opened my eyes to something new "word study". Reading the bible on a daily basis is not something I do, but oddly enough this exact thought has been strong in my mind this past weekend. Combined with this post, I'd say that was a sign, wouldn't you? Hugs to you,

Oh, this was such an uplifting read this beautiful Tuesday morning... Thank you for sharing refreshment and encouragement for our hearts each week, dear Stephanie! Holy Bible Book Divine is a hymn my little sisters sing together ad oh my! It is just too precious for words... When I was little, I learnt the words and actions for ''Read your Bible, Pray Everyday...." It has stuck with me to this day and I still love to hum it and ponder the words which always remind me to be faithful in reading my Bible and praying!
I am so glad you have a wonderful new KJV study Bible...it sounds and looks amazing! I love and prefer the King James Bible...while it may a little more challenging to read, it is a comfort and blessing to know it is the most accurate!
I hope all is proceeding very well with the teacup exchange and that your week has been a most beautiful one, filled with sweet blessings from the Lord!
With much, much love to you today!

Beautiful pictures this evening and this looks like a great study bible, I think that is why I love ladies bible study group I belong to because we bring meaning to the bible and dig a little deeper than I do normally on my own study time. I do like the NIV just for the reason that I am able to understand it better than the KJV, but with this study it would probably help in that department.
The one quote I hadn't heard before
The Bible is the only book
whose Author is always present
when one reads it.
I so Love that!
Have a terrific week!
