Why Do I Sing About Jesus?

Deep in my heart there’s a gladness;
Jesus has saved me from sin!
Praise to His name, what a Savior!
Cleansing without and within!

Only a glimpse of His goodness;
That was sufficient for me.
Only one look at the Savior—
Then was my spirit set free.

He is the Fairest of fair ones;
He is the Lily, the Rose.
Rivers of mercy surround Him;
Grace, love and pity He shows.

Why do I sing about Jesus?
Why is He precious to me?
He is my Lord and my Savior,
Dying, he set me free!
- Albert A. Ketchum -

Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
Sing forth the honour of his name:
make his praise glorious.
- Psalm 66:1-2 -

I will sing unto the Lord,
because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
- Psalm 13:6 -

 Come and hear, all ye that fear God,
and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
- Psalm 66:16 -

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance:
but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
- Proverbs 15:13 -

Have a blessed and joyous Lord's Day, friends!

Love the beautiful photos. The song is so special to me, because I do sing about Jesus because He is very precious to me. H is everything to me! Thanks for reminding us of the words of the old songs that glorify Jesus. They are such a blessing. Hugs.

Reading this hymn was timely. Today I am feeling rather low but seeing the Scriptures and the Beauty of JESUS within them has caused my spirits to rally once again. So I THANK YOU for this post. ♡

I have not sung that great old song in a long time and I had forgotten the third verse: the fairest of fair ones...the lily, the rose. Just beautiful.

I don't know that song, Stephanie, but the words are beautiful. How lovely are your pictures that you interspersed between the words that you shared. The last one about a cheerful countenance and the broken spirit, really moved me.
I hope you're having a beautiful Sunday, sweet friend. xx

Now you stumped me on this one haha! I thought I knew most of the old hymns but I am not familiar with this one. Lovely words though -- I love the simplicity of the chorus -- Why do I sing about Jesus - why is He precious to me? The simple yet profound answer - by dying he set me free!

We have a 99 year old man at our nursing home who is legally blind and has dementia. He's really very confused, but he still prays all the time and thanks God for everything - including people to help him use the bathroom. He also sings a lot of old hymns, and one is this one - Why do I sing about Jesus? He has such a testimony, even at this stage of life. I will never hear that song without thinking of him.
PS - glad you got the post up in spite of the computer issues.
