6 Days of Yo-Yo Fun.....Yo-Yo Brooch

A cheery good day to you, friends!
Here we are. . .
day 2 in the 6 days of yo-yo fun.
Yesterday I shared a garland that I made for my miniature Christmas tree.
You can click HERE if you would like to see it.

Today I have a holiday brooch
that takes only a teensy weensy bit of time to make.
This Christmas flower brooch
is made with 4 yo-yo's, two fabric leaves, and pearls.

The measurements for the yo-yo's are:

one large - 4-inch circle
two medium - 3-inch circles
one small - 2 1/2-inch circle

And for the leaves you will need two 3-inch circles.
To make the leaves simply fold the circle in half
with wrongs sides facing one another.

Fold both ends into the middle.

Sew a gathering stitch along the raw edge
and knot at the end when you're done.

And this is what your fabric leaf should look like. . .

If you're not sure how to make a yo-yo
just click HERE for instructions.

Add an embellishment to the middle of your yo-yo's,
if you so desire.
I used small silk roses.
Apply a small dab of hot glue to the back side of the yo-yo's and leaves,
and place them how you want.

Once they are secure
you will want to add a piece of felt or a shabby rose
along with an alligator clip to the back side
like you see in the picture below.
I sandwiched the shabby rose between the clip.
By using an aliigator clip you can wear the brooch on a sweater
or in your hair.
Also, I tucked a stem of pearls behind the shabby rose.

And here is the finished Christmas flower brooch.

The skates you see in the photos
were handpainted by the lovely and talented Celestina.
You can find her beautiful creations HERE.

I attempted to take a picture of the brooch on my red sweater
and while I was adjusting it for the photo
Little Burrito jumped in and made himself comfortable.
It's like he thinks I won't see him. . .

I looked away for just a second
and turned around to this. . .
Little Burrito making himself right at home
on my favorite red cardigan.

Okay, I thought to myself,
I'll just work around him,
but wait,
are those paws peeking through in the picture?!

He looks at me as if to say,
"Is there a problem?"

Alrighty, Burrito,
I'll just zoom in on the brooch.
Or not. . .
Of course the little guy would pop his head in
right when I clicked the button.

Oh well, I tried.
I left Burrito alone, but after 30 minutes I went back to check on him
and found him like this. . .

Snuggling with his new Christmas brooch.
It looks good on him, don't you think?

Happy crafting, my friends.
See you tomorrow!

Hahaha! I laughed out loud at these pics of that little stinker Burrito! Well of COURSE he assumes you made that JUST for him! The brooch is lovely - I really like the colors of fabric - very 'vintage' looking. I bought a peachy, fur throw to put on my bed and almost every day I come up from my office in the basement to find my Cocker Spaniel Ava curled up in it. She 'swishes' it around her like a nest. Punk.

So fun, festive, and simply beautiful for this glorious season! There is nothing like a bright brooch in winter especially, I think, to make an outfit all the more lovely and cheery :) And to see Burrito made my morning- he is so, so sweet, and how precious that he loves his new Christmasy brooch. I don't blame you, Burrito ;)
I so enjoyed reading this morning through posts I had missed recently and seeing the little angelic faces of all the kittens- oh what a joy they must be. I also love your little tree garland from yesterday- it is the perfect combination with the fabrics and addition of the pearls♥♥ Such a charming adornment for your tree. I also just love the vintagey car frame I believe it is with your sweet wedding photo♥

I also saw you had mentioned you weren't feeling well and were under the weather- I am so sorry to hear that, sweet friend, and I'm so glad you started feeling a bit better, but I am praying for the Lord to continue to heal you and make you feel completely better very, very soon!

Love and many hugs to you!

Burrito just MAKES these pictures pop! I love when cats show their personalities like this. Sweet brooch. I did not exactly understand the rose on the backside though. I also think adding a hair clip to the back would make for a festive hair clip atop a ponytail. I will have to send you a fun yo-yo craft I did YEARS ago via email. I think you will get a kick out of it!

Well, just ignore some of my comments. I re-read your post and apparently, I skipped down to fast. You explained the rose on the back AND added a hair clip. My bad! Ha!

Well that was a a good smile for my morning to watch sweet little Burrito be part of your photo shoot! I think cats just seem to know when you are doing something important and they want to be right in the middle of it! They always want to be the center of your attention LOL! I love your brooch idea and the cute pin that you made with it!
