A Shabby Birthday Dinner

Hi, my sweet and lovely friends!
How are you today?
I hope you are well and enjoying this last day in February.
Can you believe March begins tomorrow?!

Yesterday was my dear mother's birthday and in honor of her special day
I invited her and my dad over for supper.
When I was growing up,
my mom always took the time to make my birthday special
by having a fun birthday party, decorating the house,
{I would always wake up in the morning to find balloons and streamers}
and making a meal of my choice.
Because of her example I enjoy doing the same for my loved ones
and yesterday was HER day.

I decided to go with a simple, but shabby tablescape
so I used lace, doilies, pearls, vintage glasses, and crystal dishes.

a title just above a Queen.

I placed vintage hankies
in the center of the table.

And yellow tea roses filled small crystal vases.

I used a lace tablecloth and underneath each crystal plate
I placed a colored doily.

The loveliest masterpiece
of the heart of God
is the heart of a mother.
- St. Therese of Lisieux -

Out of all the mom's in the world,
I am so glad you're mine!

A mother is like a flower,
each one is beautiful and unique.

I used my favorite vintage glasses for the special occasion.
I found these little lovelies a few years ago at an antique shop.
On one side you will find a southern belle
and on the other side is a southern mansion.

I wove a lace scarf around the light fixture above the table
and hung a few lace hearts for some extra "love."

A mother's hug lasts long
after she lets go.

Along with yellow tea roses. . .

I filled a beautiful crystal bowl
with pearls, vintage brooches, lace, and other pretty things
for the centerpiece.

A mother's heart
is a special place
where her children
are always home.

Of courses there were gifts.
The darling paper bag was made by a sweet blogging friend
who has an Etsy shop called My Pink Paper Cottage.
She makes such beautiful and unique items.

The menu for the evening. . .

Tomato and Cucumber Salad

Cinnamon and Sugar Carrots

Wild Rice

Tomato and Rosemary Chicken

Fresh Bread. . .hot out of the oven

And for dessert I made my mother's favorite cake. . .
German Chocolate Cake.

I made it from scratch and decided to do something a little different
by making mini cakes for each guest.

First my mother,
Always my friend.
Forever together,
Our love never ends.

I am truly thankful for my precious mother
and it's an honor to be able to celebrate her life.

Thank you for visiting, my friends.
Have a beautiful day!

Our cat family enjoyed a special meal as well.

Happy birthday to your mother! What a wonderful dinner and table setting. I really love how you placed doilies underneath to give the clear plates colors. She must have loved it. You are so fortunate to have each other. I have some clear plates, and I will have to try it with something, sometime. Wow! Six kitties. I have only three now. Two rescue outdoors, and one rescue indoor. But I've never had six at once! THough I do have six pets. Three cats and three dogs. Have a wonderful week. xoxo Su

How fun! The funny thing is that today is my little brother's birthday. Mothers are so fun and special, it's a blessing to do things for them. ;)
Just wanted to say, love your blog. I've followed for a few years now, have commented a couple times I believe, and have participated in the last two teacup/mug exchanges. I love it! My blog isn't exactly like yours, but I do get quite a bit of inspiration from you!
Love your cats! We have quite a few too! I love cats. ;)
The table setup was beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

What a happy birthday! (And happy kitties! hee!) This is so funny...this is the third time now that I've read your blog and said this, but I saw those same glasses on Etsy and favorited them a while back. ha, ha. I guess our taste is the same, for sure. I don't think I'll ever buy them because I'm scared to with all these boys, lol. But they are pretty, aren't they? (Although I did just buy some really pretty dishes that I'll share on my blog when they arrive...but I've already decided that until my husband can build a hutch, they'll stay in the box away from the boys! ha!)

What a very special birthday for your Mama! I'll be she loved it. What a sweet idea to use a different doily under each plate.

And wow, look at the cat buffet... do they all always go to the same plate each time or do they switch it up. I used to have to separate our two cats, but they always knew which bowl was theirs. :)
