Advice From a Pumpkin
Be well-rounded.
Get plenty of sunshine.
Give thanks for life's bounty.
Have a thick skin.
Keep growing.
Be outstanding in your field.
Think big.
A very happy hello to you!
Can you believe September will arrive
in just a few days?
My oh my, where did August go?
The coming arrival of September
has me gearing up for pumpkins.
How about you, lovely friends,
are you getting ready for sweet autumn?
I have been busy in my craft room
making pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
I thought I would share them with you, dear friends,
along with a tutorial.
To make your own pumpkin,
you will need:
fabric
batting
small glass stones {optional}
cinnamon stick
Spanish moss
embellishments
To begin,
you will need a piece of fabric
that is 8 x 16-inches in size.
This will give you a fairly decent sized pumpkin.
If you want yuor pumpkin bigger or smaller,
simply double the measurement of the width.
For example, if the width is only 5-inches
then your length would be double so it would be 10-inches.
Make sense?
Fold the fabric right sides together
and sew along the edge to create a tube.
Sew a gathering stitch along the bottom of the tube.
Pull tightly
and knot the end to keep the bottom sealed.
Turn the fabric right side out
and fill with a few glass stones and batting.
The stones help weigh the pumpkin down.
You could also use sand
or simply don't use anything but batting.
Sew a gathering stitch along the to edge
to close up the pumpkin.
Leave a small opening at the top
so that you can add a little bit of Spanish moss.
For the stem,
gently push the cinnamon stick
into the center of the pumpkin.
I added a shabby rose
to the bottom of the pumpkin.
Now the fun part. . .
it's time to embellish your pumpkin.
For one of my sequin pumpkins
I added a lovely little cameo
to the center.
And finished it off with some pearls,
glittery ribbon, and a paper flower.
I added a glittery bow to the stem
of the other sequin pumpkin.
And on the center I placed two burlap leaves
and a darling squirrel pin.
I made this pumpkin out of jersey type fabric
and used a vintage doily and flower for the centerpiece.
I also included a bow
and several flowers on the stem.
Next up is this sweet velvet pumpkin.
Once again you'll find a vintage doily on the center
along with a stunning treble clef pin.
This pumpkin is made with charming silk fabric
that has roses all over it.
And finally. . .
this last one I made with the sequin and silk fabric.
Most of these pumpkins are available in my
