Summer Adventures

A summer
I'll always remember
with people
I'll never forget.

It's been a good summer, my friends.
There were baseball games,
hikes and jeep rides,
amusement parks, cave tours,
and swimming. . . lots of swimming.
I can't help but look back at the adventures
and smile. . .
Won't you join me as I share some moments
that were enjoyed these last few months.
Let's start with some jeeping and hiking.

Buckle up, my friends,
because here we go!

The mountains are calling
and we must go.

On Memorial Day
we decided to hike up Castle Peak.
My oh my, what a beautiful hike!
The arrow is pointing to where we were going.

As you can see,
the mountain is getting closer!

Yep, there was still snow
up where we went.

We're getting there. . .

Just look at the view from this high up.
Amazing, isn't it!?

Woo hoo!
The peak is within grasp!

Just a few more lot more steps.

It was definitely worth the effort
to get to Castle Peak.

Every mountain top
is within reach
if you just keep climbing.
- - Barry Finlay - -

We enjoyed many games of baseball this year
including Little League and Major League.
My son had a fantastic team
and they made it all the way to the championship.

Collect moments
not things.

Back in the spring I shared with you
about the experience my son had meeting Ian Desmond
(the 1st baseman for the Rockies) at Spring Training.
Ian told my son to shout out "Hey Friend" next time he saw him
so that he would know they were "friends."
Of course this made my son smile.
Well, we made a sign that said just that
and took it to one of the games.
Well, guess what, my friends?
Ian came over to my son and said,
"Don't I know you from Spring Training?"
My son and I were speechless and of course, thrilled!
He gave my son a baseball and this time he signed his glove.
Also, while standing there many of the fans were trying to get Ian's autograph
and he told them, "Sorry, I'm here for my buddy only."
I didn't think my smile could get any bigger!
It was truly a joy and blessing.
On top of that,
we went to a baseball game 2 weeks ago
and while we were there we stood by 1st base.
You'll never believe it,
but Ian came over again to say hi to my son
and to give him knuckles.
Wow, what a guy!

We sat by the wall in left field
during another game that we attended and. . .

Guess who got another ball?
Yes siree, the left fielder threw my son a baseball.
Thanks a million Gerardo Parra!

Mmmm. . .
you can't beat a nice warm day in the sun
while watching baseball with your loved ones.

During the summer days
we went to a Monster Truck Rally.
That was something!
We had front row seats
and let's just say I jumped a time or two
thinking the truck was going to roll over
right by us.

And of course no summer is complete
without a game of mini golf.

I also had the opportunity
of taking my son and nephew to the Glenwood Springs Caverns.

We rode the rides and toured the caves.
What a fabulous experience!

Here we are
inside the King's Row Cave.

My apologies for the exposure in the next picture.
We had to take it with the flash on
and boy, did it light us up!

The boys enjoyed some rock climbing.

And my nephew went on the giant swing
the swings out over the canyon.
He asked me to ride it with him,
but my son was almost in tears asking me not to.
He told me he was scared I would fall off.
What a sweetie pie!

All three of us rode the new ride
which is called the "Haunted Mine Drop."
It takes you on a 110′ drop
inside Iron Mountain.
What a thrill!
I have been on drop rides before
and I was expecting the ride to move forward first,
but it took me by surprise when the floor moved out from underneath us
(something I didn't notice the first time we rode it)
and we immediately fell straight down.
It was my son's first amusement park ride
and he loved it!

Check out the video to see the ride.

This summer has been an absolute delight.
I could share more pictures with you,
but I think this post is already too photo heavy.

I will leave you with one last picture of my son.
Maybe it will bring a smile to your face. 😀

One last thing. . .
I just added some fun new autumn items to my shop
including several sunflower theme treasures.

Thank you for stopping by!
Hugs and blessings to you.

I'm breathless after reading your Summer journey! What fun you had, and what amazing things you did. I would not have wanted to go on the swing over the canyon either!

Wow, what a wonderful summer you and your family had. I would not be able to climb that peak. Maybe when I was a lot younger, with hubby encouraging me onward, but not now.

Thanks for sharing the great photos ~ Have a lovely Sept. ~ FlowerLady

I think the family picture at the beginning of the post should be your Christmas card. You definitely had a fun, family summer. Great memories all around. I need to learn how to make those cute flowers you put on your bags. So cute.

Wow, you had such a fantastic summer! I enjoyed all your photos, especially the sweet family photos. The view from the hike is incredible. Sounds like Ian Desmond and your son have become really good friends :-) What special memories he got! And he is so sweet to get so worried about you at the ride.
Thank you for sharing your summer, Stephanie! xo

Sweet friend, what a wonderful summer with your guys. Your little baseball player had quite the summer, and how fun for him to become friends with a Rockies player. It seems like it was yesterday that my son was that age and playing baseball, he is now 32. Enjoy these precious moments. Hugs❤️

You had an amazing summer and the smiles on everyone's faces tells it all! So cool about the baseball player - I suspect he now has a fan for life. Here we're Blue Jays fans but the park is just a tad too far away for us to enjoy the games in person. I wouldn't be doing the rock climbing OR the bottom-drop-out ride, but I certainly would love being on top of that mountain!

Rose L said...

That was quite the hike! I would never have done the mine drop ride! Too scary for me!!

Wow, I loved reading everything you did this summer, it sounded like such fun! And what that baseball player did for your son was so thoughtful, I can see how that would make your son's year! {{smiles}} Your son was also hilarious in the last photo, haha! The hike you took looked like a lot of uphill climbing, but the views were beautiful! {{smiles}}

Many hugs and blessings to you, Mrs. Dunsdon!

What a fun filled family summer you had with your husband and son. Thanks for sharing with us. Colorado is indeed a beautiful state. I remember being there in September 5 years ago for the wedding of my niece in Basalt
and driving higher and higher into the mountains where there was heavy snow and ice. Thank goodness I was the passenger not the driver. But a beautiful experience.

I was smiling from ear to ear while looking at your fun summer pictures and reading what all you did. Of course, seeing you with your hubby and son, and your nephew was so special. I'm with your son in not wanting you to ride that swing, but the ride that dropped was scary enough! Whew!! Ian Desmond was so sweet to remember your son, and I'm sure that was a highlight of your little boy's summer. Thanks for sharing your happiness, sweet Stephanie! xx

Thanks for sharing your fun summer excursions with us. It's heartwarming to hear that the baseball players were kind to fans like your son. I'm not a roller coaster fan so I would never be able to ride the swing and the Haunted Mine Drop. Yikes!

I was taken by surprise when I clicked on this posting of yours!
Awesome photos you have shared with us of your Summer fun, and to see the photo of those two grandsons together was heart warming. Quite special indeed.
After watching that little clip on the mine ride I can now see why you were all so enthusiastic in sharing your experience with me.
The hike to Castle Peak is amazing! Breathtaking views for sure.
I had to laugh at that chip bag and huge smile. :}
Those baseball experiences will remain in your little ones heart forever. Pure joy!
Fun times all around and you are so sweet to share them all with us.

Love you ~

The hike to Castle Rock looks amazing. What a great time to spend with your husband and son. I'd definitely say no to the over-the-canyon lookout, AND the Haunted Cave Drop. The video was enough for me!
Have a beautiful September, Stephanie.

I just loved this recap of your fun summer! Great pictures of you and your guys! What a thrill for your son to be friends with a baseball player! I will try to keep up with your new posts because for some reason I am not receiving email notifications from you when you post. A bug I have to try and fix fast!

What a splendid, fun summer you and your family enjoyed, dear Stephanie! I simply love that you can see mountains in the background of that monster truck photo...and those caves look amazing! Such beauty! I know your son must have had such a grand time at all those sporting events and especially for that player to remember him. That's something I'm sure he'll never forget! He'll probably be passing that story down to the next generation.

I hope September is off to a lovely start for you! Have a lovely rest of the week ♥

Love and hugs,

What a beautiful and fun summer you have had, Castle Peak is a good name for that mountain, it looks like a castle.
Really scary to descent into that mine!

It looks like you and your family had a fabulous summer together making wonderful memories. I'm sure your son was very thrilled to get some special attention from the ball player. I love the view from your hike in the first several photos and I envy (in a good way) your ability to climb. God bless you all as you transition to Fall.

Wow, you have experienced a fabulous Summer filled with wonderful memories and fun times, dear Stephanie. How fabulous your son received all those special moments at the baseball. This is what he will remember in years to come. Now about that mountain, I am afraid I would have to drink in the splendour at the base. =)

Your summer seems like a lot of fun, the ways summers should be. Full of fresh air and exercise, with a fair bit of thrill and adventure thrown in. I would rather hike up that mountain twice than go on those theme park rides, I'm with your son, I hate to watch my family on them as well! You all look so tanned and happy! Give that Ian Desmond a huge round og applause for being such a thoroughly nice Guy!

What a marvelous summer you have had, dear Stephanie! I love it that your son was so sweet about not wanting you to ride the drop ride. That hike you took had to be so rewarding when you reached the top of the peak! Just breathtaking! Have a lovely weekend, sweet friend. xx

Woohoo! Looks like you've had a lovely summer. That hike was really beautiful, if exhausting! And it seems like your son made some really special baseball memories that he'll remember for the rest of his life. :) It's neat to see how he is enjoying fun times with you and your husband because it reminds me of how I grew up; There is a special bond that an only child experiences with their parents. :)

Wonderful summer photos Stephanie. Just perfect for scrapbooking! What a summer story they would tell.. or just print out your post and put it into a book! That Castle Peak is awesome and amazing that you got so close.. I almost expected to see you guys standing up on top! fun rides, hiking, ice caves, ball games.. what a great summer you've had... and you still found time for sewing the wonderful items for your shop. Oh if I had money, I'd buy up a ton of your cuties for Christmas gifts! I like to sew.. but you have a certain touch with each and every one of your handmades.. just love them. Love the Fall themed fabrics you've used too.. just gorgeous. Sending my blessings to you... Marilyn

What a JOY to visit you today, sweet friend, and "come along" with you on your summer adventures! I miss the mountains so, and your beyond beautiful hike was such a glorious glimpse of the Lord's creation that made my morning to get to see- I could almost smell the mountain air. Oh what a fun time! The peak and that view from the top, oh my. I love mountain climbing because not only are you feeling like you're in heaven from the scenery, but you are closer to heaven, too :)
From your mountain trip, to the caves, to your son's league and the baseball games and the Ian Desmond story (that's sooo neat!!) and such fun times of exploring you shared, it sounds and looks like it adds up to a wonderful summer indeed.
And your family is so sweet as always- what precious memories to have made throughout your summer together♥
I am also excited to see your items in your shop and to see that it was moved here! How perfect to have it right here on your blog. I enjoyed gazing at everything and your new beautiful additions and handiwork- I am especially head-over-heels for your sequin and velvet pumpkins. Soo lovely, as are your sunflower-themed items!

Love and many hugs to you, dear Stephanie, and wishing you the most blessed day and (soon) beginning to Autumn!
