Apple Fritter Bread

You truly made my life sweeter.
I have to be honest and say 
that I was terrified of opening up and sharing my story,
but you were incredibly gracious, loving, and KIND!
Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.
And I want to thank YOU for opening up with me.
Some of you shared some heart-touching stories
and I am ever so grateful for your openness and honesty.
Now, shall we do some autumn baking?

Apples, sugar, cinnamon, and icing,
does it get any better, my friends?
This apple fritter bread is simply lovely
and tastes delicious with a cup of coffee or tea.
Why don't we make a loaf. . .


- - Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Mixture - -
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- - Bread Loaf - -
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk or almond milk
2 apples any kind, peeled and chopped,
mixed with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon

- - Old-Fashioned Creme Glaze - -
1/2 cup of powdered sugar
1-3 tablespoons of milk or cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 
Use a 9x5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl. 
Set aside.

In another medium-sized bowl, 
beat granulated sugar and butter together 
using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, until blended.
Add in vanilla extract.
Combine and whisk flour and baking powder together in another bowl 
and add into creamed butter mixture and stir until blended.
Mix milk into batter until smooth.

Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan; 
add half the chopped apple mixture.
Sprinkle 1/2 of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture 
on top of the apple layer. 
Pour the remaining batter over the apple layer 
and top with remaining chopped apples, 
then the remaining brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Lightly pat the apples into batter.
Swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using a knife or spoon.
Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted 
in the center of the loaf comes out clean,
approximately 50-60 minutes.

To make the glaze, 
mix powdered sugar and milk or cream together until well mixed.
Let cool for about 15 minutes before drizzling with glaze.

Oh that looks great! I have never had an apple fritter...banana fritter...not apple. Wonder if this bread could be turned into a banana fritter bread. Don’t mind me, Stephanie, just thinking out loud. 🙃

In the days (years ago) when I COULD eat wheat flour and sugar, I absolutely LOVED apple fritters! One of my most fave things to get at a bakery! But now... NO GLUTEN for me and hardly any sugar and this is pretty sugar heavy! Darn. It looks devine and my mouth is watering. I may print it out and try to make it fit the no gluten and no sugar diet.... I usually use gluten free flours but am now going to almond flour (less carbs). I also rarely use more than 1/4 cup of sugar in anything or may just add some local raw honey, so I may give this a whirl and see what happens! I just made a bunch of applesauce (for the freezer) with a big box of apples I got from my son.... wish I would have had this recipe a day sooner! It sounds so wonderful with a cup of hot tea on a gray day like today! hugs.. Marilyn

I love Apple Fritters so I'm pretty sure I would devour one of these loaves. :-) It looks mouth-wateringly (is that even a word?) delicious!

I made muffins the other day but they did not come out well at all. I tried modifying my recipe to make them healthier and they were sooooo dry, we couldn't eat them. :(
I'm not giving up though. I had lots of suggestions from friends as to how to add some moisture without compromising flavor so I am willing to try again.

Apple fritters are my favorite!! This looks so yummy. If I bake up a loaf, will you come join Rebekah and I for a slice?! :) PS. I made your apple crisp shortbread bars and since I popped them in the oven while we were eating dinner that night, there was no time to cool/chill them down....but oh my! I can't imagine eating them any other way than warm from the oven! You should make them again, and try it, you know. ;)

Oh my oh my!! I am printing this and making it this weekend! We have a local grocery store that makes THE BEST apple fritter donuts and whenever we indulge in donuts on the weekend, that is what I get. They are huge! Your apple fritter bread is making my mouth water hehehe. Stephanie, when I saw this dessert, I automatically thought of my mom. She used to love apple fritters. They are so tasty, and these look scrumptious with the icing - I think that really makes it. Oh, I wish I had one with my coffee right now. You are such an excellent baker.
