Fashion Friday and A Winner

Dressing well is a form
of good manners.
- - Tom Ford - -

Greetings, my friends!
How are you on this beautiful Friday?
Do you have any special plans for the weekend?
My husband, son, and I are planning to head up into the woods
to find our Christmas tree tomorrow.
Oh, we can't wait!
We'll be taking sugar cookies, fudge, and hot cocoa
along on our adventure.
Hot soup and grilled cheese
will be waiting for us when we return.
It's been snowing so we may even squeeze in some sledding
while we look for the "perfect" tree.

As promised,
I will be announcing the giveaway winner today.
Keep on reading

Now for a little fun fashion. . .

I found this charming skirt at the craft show
where I sold my handmade items at.
It was hanging up on a mannequin
and it was love at first sight.
The tiny pleats, the roses, the color. . .
yes, please!
I walked away from it
and for about 2 - 3 hours I kept telling myself I didn't need it.
Well, as you can see that "pep talk" didn't go over well
because it came home with me.

You may have noticed my hair is shorter.
A couple of weeks ago
I went in and had 4-inches cut off
and now I'm "sporting" a new long bob.
I've always had layers
so the blunt cut is something new and fun for me.

Anyway, moving on to the jewelry. . .
you'll see that I'm wearing my sweet tea pot necklace.
As mentioned before,
it was gifted to me from a dear friend.

Thank you.

The delightful winner is. . .

Cheryl shared this Christmas memory:

"One of my favorite Christmas memories
happened in 2000.
I went into labor Christmas night
and had our precious baby boy the following morning!
The sweetest earthly gift I have ever been given!
God is SO good. "

Have a beautiful day
and a blessed weekend, friends!

Dear Christmas Mothers & A Giveaway

"Make a homemade Christmas
for your dear families. . .
don't think about going to the store first.
Go through the pantry cupboards
and look at what you have.
Do you have hamburger,
and some potatoes and vegetables?
Fry up some meat
with onions and fresh pepper and salt.
This is the smell of home and family."
- - Connie Hultquist - Dear Christmas Mothers (pg. 75) - -

Hello, sweet friends!
Today I have a lovely little giveaway. . .
It's a charming Christmas book
written by Connie Hultquist.
Here is a small "taste" of what the book is about. . .

Homemaking inspiration from the author of "Dear Kitchen Saints."
Connie has been writing letters about her daily life for many years.
These have been sent to homemakers all over the world.
Her Christmas writings are a small collection
of 17 letters, from the early years of 2000.
They are from Thanksgiving and Christmas-time.
There is also a small recipe section in the back,
to encourage you in your Christmas baking.
The author shares precious letters
about her days as an Iowa housewife -
a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Her letters are about what she is doing in her home for Christmas.
You will learn about how Christmas used to be,
and how it can be. . .
Her writings will inspire you
to have a peaceful, old fashioned Christmas!

A dear blogging friend of mine,
contacted me about reviewing
Dear Christmas Mothers.
I love Christmas time
and there is something special about reading Christmas books
during the holiday season, don't you think?
This book gently pulls the reader in
and reminds you that Christmas is a beautiful time
to spend with loved ones.
The author encourages mothers to make Christmas special
by creating festive moments that are filled with love and warmth.
Dear Christmas Mothers
offers sweet gift ideas to bless someone,
words that will touch the heart,
and tasty recipes that are sure to make your tummy happy.
The book is fairly small
and can be enjoyed on a cold, frosty day
while you sit by the crackling fire
with a cup of hot tea, coffee, or cocoa.

"I try to have my cassette recorder out
and the Christmas songs playing,
and the candles lit on the table
as I cook and make things for Christmas.
I think that Mother brings in the Christmas spirit to the family.
We need so much to make a shelter for the family,
and the Christmas season is the time to do it."
- - Connie Hultquist - Dear Christmas Mothers (pg. 52) - -

Mrs. White has graciously offered to give a copy
of Dear Christmas Mothers to one of my lovely readers.
To enter the giveaway,
simply leave a comment on my blog
telling me about a precious Christmas memory.
The winner will be announced on Friday the 30th.

Even if you are not a mother,
please feel free to enter the giveaway.
I think this book can be enjoyed by anyone. . .
you can also give it to your dear mother for Christmas.

Have a beautiful week, my friends!

Singing Praises This Thanksgiving Season

Praise ye the Lord!
O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath,
come now with praises before him.
Let the Amen sound from his people again;
gladly forever adore him.
- - Joachim Neander - -

I'll praise my Maker while I've breath,
And when my voice is lost in death,
Praise shall employ my nobler powers;
My days of praise shall ne'er be past,
While life, and thought, and being last,
Or immortality endures.

Happy the man whose hopes rely
On Israel's God: he made the sky,
And earth, and seas, with all their train;
His truth for ever stands secure,
He saves the opprest, he feeds the poor,
And none shall find his promise vain.

The Lord pours eye-sight on the blind;
The Lord supports the fainting mind;
He sends the labouring conscience peace;
He helps the stranger in distress,
The widow, and the fatherless,
And grants the prisoner sweet release.

I'll praise him while he lends me breath,
And when my voice is lost in death,
Praise shall employ my nobler powers;
My days of praise shall ne'er be past,
While life, and thought, and being last,
Or immortality endures.
- - Charles Wesley - -

I will praise the name of God with a song,
and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
- - Psalm 69:30 - -

Bless the Lord, O my soul:
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
- - Psalm 103: 1-2 - -

Lovely friends,
there is so much to praise the Lord for
and I want you to know that I am incredibly thankful
for each and every one of you.
You make my life sweeter.

Have a most blessed Thanksgiving!

Hello, my friends!
Let's have a Christmas Ornament Swap,

Bloggers and non-bloggers are welcome to join the swap.

Now for a few rules
that I kindly ask you to follow:

You are welcome to send something that is vintage,
if it's in good condition.
You can also send something from your own collection,
but again, please make sure it's in nice condition.

Send a little something
with the Christmas ornament.
Be creative, my friends,
include something that is sure to bless the recipient's heart.

to the lady that sends you an ornament.

If you sign up,

If you want to join the swap,
please fill out the registration form below:

Registration begins today, November 15th
and will end on Monday, November 19th.

I will try to have all of you lovely ladies paired up
by Wednesday the 21st.
You will send an ornament to someone
and someone completely different will send to you
so you will make two friends during the swap.

We will then have until Saturday, December 1st
to get our Christmas ornament boxes packed and shipped off.
Please keep in mind
that Christmas is quickly approaching
so it would be appreciated if the packages were sent out
as soon as possible.

Finally, there will be a fun reveal on my blog
on Monday, December 17th.
The reveal is an opportunity
to share our Christmas goodies with one another.
If you have a blog,
please feel free to write a post about your swap.
If you don't have a blog
than you can simply send me a photo of your treasures
and I will share it on the reveal post.

I truly hope you're able to join
the Christmas Ornament Swap.
It will be a delightful time of giving and receiving,
and along the way you might make a new friend or two.

The Spirit of Christmas
is indeed  the Christ Spirit.

Hugs to you, dear friends!

Catching Christmas & An Ornament Swap

To catch the real meaning
of the Spirit of Christmas,
we need only drop the last syllable
and it becomes
the Spirit of Christ.
- - Thomas Monson - -

A very happy day to you, my friends!
The holidays are quickly approaching
and what better way to bring them in
than to curl up with a sweet Christmas novel.
I have always had a soft spot for Christmas books
and during the holiday season I make it a point
to read one. . .two. . .or five.
Catching Christmas is my first holiday read this year
and oh, what a delightful book!

Before I jump into the book review,
I want to mention that I am going to host a
Christmas Ornament Swap.
You can find the details at the end of this post.

Catching Christmas

As a first-year law associate,
Sydney Batson knows she will be updating her resume by New Year's
if she loses her current court case.
So when her grandmother gets inexplicably ill while she's in court,
Sydney arranges for a cab to get her to the clinic.
The last thing cab driver Finn Parrish wants
is to be saddled with a wheelchair-bound old lady with dementia.
But because Miss Callie reminds him of his own mother,
whom he failed miserably in her last days,
he can't say no when she keeps calling him for rides.
Once a successful gourmet chef,
Finn's biggest concern now is making his rent,
but half the time Callie doesn't remember to pay him.
And as she starts to feel better,
she leads him on wild goose chases
to find a Christmas date for her granddaughter.
When Finn meets Sydney,
he's quite sure that she's never needed help finding a date.
Does Miss Callie have an ulterior motive,
or is this just a mission driven by delusions?
He's willing to do whatever he can to help fulfill Callie's Christmas wish.
He just never expected to be a vital part of it.

My Thoughts
Catching Christmas is one of those
sweet, warm and fuzzy, feel-good book's. . .
it's the kind that makes you smile, laugh, and yes, cry.

Each character is simply precious,
and Callie. . .
well, Callie will wiggle herself into the reader's heart
from the very start.
Her sense of humor and outlook on life
will touch your heart, my friends.
This book is just the thing to get you in to the Christmas spirit.
Make yourself a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows,
grab a soft blanket, curl up by a window in the sunshine,
open Catching Christmas and begin reading. . .
you will not be disappointed, sweet friends.

** I was given a complimentary copy of this book
from BookLook Bloggers for an honest review.
All thoughts are my own and no other compensation was received. **

And now onto the Christmas Ornament Swap. . .
my dear friend, Vicky from Life On Willie Mae Lane,
used to host a delightful ornament swap
and it was always a joy to participate.
Unfortunately, she stopped hosting it a few years ago.
Since I loved it so much
I thought I would host one this Christmas season.

Registration will begin on this Thursday the 15th
and will end on Monday the 19th.

The rules are easy peasy, my friends. . .
simply send a Christmas ornament,
and extra little "Christmasy" something
to the lady I pair you up with.
This swap is open to bloggers and non-bloggers
so that means you do not have to have a blog in order to participate.
Also, the swap is only open to USA and CANADA residents.
I am truly sorry to limit it like this,
but I feel I must at this time.

I will have more details on Thursday
when the registration opens.
I hope you are able to join the fun.

Have a beautiful day
and I will "see" you on Thursday!

Precious Lord, Take My Hand

For I the Lord thy God
will hold thy right hand,
saying unto thee,
Fear not; I will help thee.
- - Isaiah 41:13 - -

Precious Lord, take my hand,
lead me on, help me stand-
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;
thru the storm, thru the night,
lead me on to the light-
Take my hand, precious Lord,
lead me home.

When my way grows drear, precious Lord,
linger near - when my life is almost gone.
Hear my cry, hear my call,
hold my hand lest I fall-
Take my hand, precious Lord,
lead me home.
- - Thomas A. Dorsey - -

Out of a broken heart
after his wife and newly born son had both died,
Thomas Dorsey cried to his Lord
to lead him "through the storm, through the night."
In doing so, he created lines that have ministered to others.
This tender song has since been a favorite
with Christians everywhere.

It was during a revival meeting in St. Louis, Missouri,
that Thomas Dorsey received a telegram telling the tragic news
of his wife and infant son.
Stunned and grief-stricken, Dorsey cried,
"God, you aren't worth a dime to me right now!"

A few weeks later, however,
as Dorsey fingered the keyboard of a piano,
he created the lines of "Precious Lord, Take My Hand"
to fit a tune that was familiar to him.
The following Sunday the choir of the Ebenezer Baptist Church
in South Chicago, Illinois, sang the new song
with Dorsey playing the accompaniment.

Thomas Dorsey once stated,
"My business is to try to bring people to Christ
instead of leaving them where they are.
I write for all of God's people.
All people are my people.
What I share with people is love.
I try to lift their spirits
and let them know that God still loves them.
He's still saving,
and He can still give that power."
- - Kenneth W. Osbeck - -

Thou wilt shew me the path of life:
in thy presence is fulness of joy;
at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
- - Psalm 16:11 - -

For this God is our God for ever and ever:
he will be our guide even unto death.
- - Psalm 48:14 - -

Love and hugs to you
on this Lord's Day!
